Education required: Must have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSE (or equivalent) at grades 9-5 which must include English Language (not literature) and Maths at grade 5 or above. Must also have/be predicted to achieve a minimum of 96 UCAS points from your top 3 A levels or equivalent (not including General Studies).

On our pharmaceutical packaging design technologist degree apprenticeship you’ll receive tailored on-the-job training from industry experts from day one combined with early responsibility to help you to develop and progress.

You’ll be working towards a BSc (Honours) Packaging Professional which will be delivered through 3 day block study periods, work-based projects, presentations and on-line study by Sheffield Hallam University.

If you are offered a role; you will have a buddy or a mentor who will help you to prepare for joining GSK and will be there to offer support and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.

Working with both your line and programme manager we want to identify the right opportunities to help you succeed in the short term and throughout your career with us.

What will you do?

Your apprenticeship will be in the Packaging Technology team. You will be based at our Barnard Castle site and will also work with other sites across the UK and the world. Communication skills are key as you will be communicating with teams at GSK and with external partners.

Your Duties Might Include
  • Supporting the development and design of new packaging materials
  • Packaging Sustainability – understanding the impact of our current packaging materials & helping to set the sustainability strategy by identifying new packaging materials.
  • Manage progressively larger projects (supported by colleagues) including new product introduction
  • Learning how to resolve packaging issues in GSK sites in the UK and across the world.
  • Designing packaging to protect our products during transportation from early stage manufacture to delivery to the patient.
  • Looking at ways we can continuously improve our current packaging.

This apprenticeship leads to Packaging technologist roles either as technical expert or more broadly supporting our site manufacturing sites.
