The Payroll Technical Specialist is a new role and will work with the Payroll team to deliver an efficient payroll service to clients and scheme members. They will also support the team with development and maintenance of payroll system functionality and process maps by working with the internal systems team.

Key Responsibilities (not exhaustive)

  • Monthly payroll routines including reconciliation of client payrolls, production and issue of pension payslips, completion of RTI submissions to HMRC and reconciliation of PAYE.
  • Performs bulk routines including tax code updates and pension increases.
  • Data processing and calculation routines.
  • Errors and omissions reporting, including supporting the investigation of client exceptions.
  • Contributes towards the on-going development and evolution of payroll services.
  • Supports the team with maintenance and development of payroll systems functionality and process maps.
  • Assists with investigation and resolution of system related payroll issues.
  • Tests payroll functionality for systems upgrades, fixes and process map developments.
  • Works with the Payroll Team Leader and wider project team to efficiently and accurately install new clients.
  • Provides technical training and supports to less experienced team colleagues.
  • Provides Pensions Finance Manager with summary of the latest industry information, legislative changes and technical briefs with specific highlights on the impact to the payroll service.
  • Will be confident working with Payroll Team Leader and Pensions Finance Manager to agree fees for clients and be part of the bid process (fees, pitching and system demonstrations).
  • Will be confident working with client in a consulting capacity, with excellent project management and communication skills.

Skills/ Knowledge

  • Proven experience of day-to-day payroll processing gained in a relevant environment.
  • Strong awareness and understanding of PAYE deductions, service standards, statutory disclosure requirement and industry best practice in relation to payroll administration.
  • Working with payroll or related systems and system upgrade testing.
  • Involvement with system upgrades, fixes and process map developments (highly desirable).
  • Use of Microsoft Excel to an intermediate or advanced level.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and able to liaise with staff and clients at different knowledge levels.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work with clients in a consulting capacity.
  • Knowledge of payroll and taxation requirements in other non-UK jurisdictions would be helpful.
