Job Purpose

As the Payroll Assistant Manager/Manager you will provide a first-class payroll service, by undertaking management duties and responsibilities within the National Payroll Team. You will work closely with the Director of payroll. This role is responsible for providing day to day support and supervision of the Supervisors, combined with managing a small portfolio of client payrolls.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Supervisors/Team and ensure all payroll deadlines and project work are met;
  • Extensive knowledge and hands on experience of PAYRITE & Paycircle payroll software setup and processing.
  • Support the team using your extensive knowledge of various specialist areas such as school, expat, shares, client accounts and medical payrolls. To include LGPS and TP pensions.
  • To run a small portfolio of Client payrolls, including project managing new client set-ups;
  • Attend staff and client meetings to deal with service issues and provide solutions to appease situations and clients.
  • To chair regular meetings with Supervisors and team raising any points for discussion/action;
  • Monitor KPI’s including staff utilisation, recoveries and workload capacity;
  • Assist with management of fee income and budget;
  • Carry out staff reviews and ensure team aspirations are recognised by way of the career pathways
  • Mentoring, supervising and training new and existing team members;
  • To keep up to date with new payroll legislation and compliance, and ensure changes are introduced to Team and client payrolls;
  • Assist in proposal preparation and marketing activities and attend networking events;
  • To work with other departments and understand the services that are being provided to clients (and not just payroll); and
  • To support the Payroll Director in developing the National Business, working with other National Payroll teams as appropriate.
  • To be the point of contact for key accounts having regular meetings to discuss service satisfaction and any process improvements required
  • To promote the Mazars brand including being active on professional social media platforms and encouraging the Team to get involved
  • To ensure the firms policies and processes are being followed by the Team in order to achieve a minimum grade ‘B’ in the QCR review
  • Control the debt percentage of Teams client base in-line with firms policy

  • Ensures payroll process and procedures are adhered to as outlined in the Quality Assurance Framework and actively encourages this within the team
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of managing/running multiple payrolls;
  • Must have experience in working in an Accountancy Bureau Payroll or Bureau Payroll working to multiple deadlines
  • Extensive knowledge of Payrite & Paycircle software;
  • Must have good applied knowledge of Payroll legislation and compliances;
  • A proficiency at intermediate level or above in Excel is required;
  • Experience in leading a team and dealing with related issues;
  • Experience of conducting appraisals and setting objectives for staff;
  • Willing to complete additional training such as the CIPP Foundation Degree in Payroll Management (Level 2 & 3)
