Our client, a tier 1 supplier to the aerospace industry, are currently looking for an experienced Painter to take up a Technical Support Lead on a permanent basis within their Southampton site.

The Job

Role Summary

In this role you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of product, in line with local manufacturing instruction to produce high quality metallic, composite components and assemblies for a variety of aircraft.
You will be responsible for masking to drawings and manufacturing plans, mixing and application of fillers, mixing and application of specialist paint schemes, abrading using orbital sanders and applying edge seal resins.
The Technical Support Leader (TSL) will be working closely with the Flow Leader or standing in for the Flow Leader to meet both internal and external customer demand whilst engaging support functions and other parts of the business. The TSL will have extensive knowledge and skill in multiple processes within the areas of work.

Role Specific Responsibilities

Will include but is not limited to:


  • Application of specialist paint schemes; primer, topcoat, anti-abrasion and gloss to a variety of Metallic, composite components and assemblies
  • Application of resin and fillers to components in accordance with customer specifications and control
  • Manual abrading and use of orbital sander
  • Masking and stencilling of Aircraft Details and assemblies to technical drawings and work instructions
  • Mixing of fillers, paints and resins in line with manufacturer instructions and COSHH requirements
  • Operating cure booths and monitoring the paint cure cycles


The TSL will be responsible for:


  • Leading and coaching their shift in designated product flow areas - working closely with the other TSLs
  • Accountable to the Flow leader for daily/weekly targets set
  • Chairperson of daily production meetings for their area/s of responsibility
  • To identify and respond to areas that need assistance to support product flow
  • Work with the Flow Leader to determine shift rota and need for overtime.
  • Work closely with the Flow leader to drive engagement and motivation in the team
  • Implement and monitor the daily objectives/priorities for the team and solve various problems within the area of responsibility
  • Lead the EHS and Quality culture on the shop floor and set the example for good practice including the facilitation and participation of problem solving.
  • Be prepared to take a lead role on small lean / process improvement projects
  • Ensure document control - controlled copy of shop documents (drawings and MPs)
  • Provide shop floor subject matter expertise to that team and be the go-to person on the shift


Candidate Requirements

Essential


  • Time-Served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in recognised allied trade
  • Competent in numeracy and literacy skills, and able to read and understand technical documentation
  • Good level of dexterity
  • Good knowledge of health and safety
  • Drive to succeed as an individual and as part of a team
  • Positive approach to problem solving
  • Participating in training programmes and procedures
  • Willing to learn and adapt with a strong focus on flexibility
  • Self-motivated with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Excellent time keeping
  • Working understanding of the 5 S and lean principles
  • Strong work ethic supported by a real positive attitude to succeed
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate the currency and competency of the key skill codes required within department
  • Great attention to the detail and accuracy of the task requirement
  • Basic IT Skills

  • Previous paint experience in aerospace or manufacturing
