JOB TITLE:Packaging Operator

DEPARTMENT:Packaging, Mountpark

SHIFT:B shift (Monday to Friday, one week 6am - 2pm, one week 2pm - 10pm)

JOB SUMMARY

To carry out a range of varied tasks as requested by your Team Leader in order to package silver stock lenses into finished goods, to ensure customer requirements, production performance targets and quality standards are met and when possible exceeded

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Carry out tasks and operate any required machines and processes as requested by your team leader to meet production targets, customer, efficiency and quality requirements in line with Standard Operating Procedures

Provide feedback to the Team Leader on work levels, machine and material issues on a regular basis.

Comply with health and safety regulations within the team and the environment ensuring safe practise regarding use of equipment (i.e. machinery, lift truck, manual handling equipment etc) and general good housekeeping to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

Receive any new training and assist in the training of other operators as required. Training must be in accordance with the necessary SOP’s and associated documentation.

Prepare and check lenses / materials prior to packaging to ensure maximum efficiency.

Perform minor maintenance tasks as appropriate according to SOP’s and training and in line with Total Productive Maintenance principals.

Use of systems appropriate to your department i.e. Global Packaging system, Baan, Red Prairie etc.

Be aware of and contribute to continuous improvement projects as appropriate.

Be prepared to work in other areas of operations for specified periods of time as required.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Dexterity, eye for detail and quality.

Previous working knowledge in a Packaging Department would be an advantage

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The post holders working environment is a large open plan warehouse / factory building.

All necessary personal protective equipment must be worn along with the use of the correct manual handling equipment and operating techniques.

As well as some lifting the majority of products are transported throughout the building on movable cages which can also be heavy.

There is constant background noise from the operation of various packaging machinery.

Temperatures in the warehouse fluctuate due to seasonal variations.

EXPERIENCE

Enthusiastic and flexible, a Team Player, also able to work alone as well as within a team, with good inter-personal skills.

Able to use own initiative.

Basic understanding of the equipment relevant to the specified area

Knowledge of the in house applications, e.g. Baan, RP

Previous experience of a Packaging Department an advantage
