Do you have experience in live music and the events industry? Can you ensure our staff, crew, performers and audiences enjoy a safe and enjoyable experience?

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for running faultless live events, and an expert understanding and hands-on approach to the operational side of shows and running a building.

About You

To join us as Operations Manager, you’ll need:

  • Experience in a Live Music Venue or in a similar role
  • To be able to show good health and safety knowledge, especially of its practical application within the context of both a venue, and live events
  • To be IOSH trained (desirable)
  • Be able to write thorough event plans, risk assessments and reports
  • Able to work flexible and unsocial hours including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays
  • Familiar with Microsoft packages such as Excel and Office
  • Be open, adaptable and positive with a hands-on approach to all tasks as well as being an efficient and effective problem solver
  • Have strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritise a complex workload by utilising excellent organisational skills
  • A strong interest in managing and maintaining a busy Grade II listed building
  • Appreciate the importance of maximising commercial income in a not-for-profit organisation
  • Have a passion and interest in contemporary culture, particularly in music, theatre, dance, and comedy.

The Role

As Operations Manager, you will provide support to the Director, Senior Management Team, Trustees and other departments across the organisation.

The role is primarily Mon-Fri 8.30am-5.30pm with some evening and weekend work.

Joining the Sub Rooms team, you will:

  • Act as the main point of contact for all enquiries as to the operation of the building
  • Work with the Duty Managers to ensure all front and rear of house areas are presented to a high standard, and are secure and health and safety compliant
  • Improve operational management systems, processes and best practices
  • Oversee all building maintenance issues, reporting to the Director as necessary, and ensuring that urgent repairs are carried out
  • Support the Finance Administrator to ensure that all necessary building maintenance contracts are kept up to date and that best value is obtained
  • To work with the Venue Manager to ensure that systems are maintained and fully operational, with a particular focus on all life safety systems and the burglar alarm.
  • Work with the Trust’s Health & Safety Consultant to maintain and revise, as appropriate, safe and efficient evacuation procedures for the building, updating staff evacuation training regularly and to a high standard
  • To be responsible for the creation and review of policies and practical guidelines relating to health and safety, lone working, access, working with children and young people, and so on.
  • Ensure that all Duty Managers are trained in the unlocking and securing of the building, and along with all staff are trained in relation to evacuation procedures and health and safety practices
  • To create event plans and risk assessments for both large and small-scale events and artistic activity, ensuring the Trust’s independent Health & Safety Consultant is engaged wherever necessary or prudent
  • To oversee the management and schedule of the cleaning contract, ensuring the highest standards are maintained throughout the building
  • Work with the Venue Manager to ensure all periodic inspections and checks that meet licensing and health and safety obligations are carried out appropriately, and certification, risk assessments and any other due diligence and/or auditable paperwork is completed and maintained
  • Act as a duty manager for the building, including some weekend and evening hours as required
  • Manage Bar, Box Office, Front of House, Cleaning, Security and other operational staff, as well as Volunteers, when duty managing events and artistic activity
  • Provide support to all users of the building with regards to physical access requirements
  • To uphold and enforce the relevant terms of the entertainment Licence, specifically the health, safety and comfort of all members of the public within the building, keeping up to date with relevant updates and changes to law.
  • To oversee all licensing administration and due diligence, ensuring testing and certification is fully maintained.
  • Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably requested to ensure the smooth running of The Sub Rooms.
