Bridon-Bekaert The Ropes Group are looking for an Operations Manager to join our Synthetics team in Coatbridge.

The purpose of the role is to Provide leadership and management for the day to day operations of the synthetics operations, ensuring that the site delivers on time, right first time, and within budget. Direct responsibility for a multi disciplined management team, covering Manufacturing, Cost and Strategy.

This is a largely self directing role. Requires a strong, “quality approach” to risk analysis and problem resolution. In conjunction with the Technical & Operations Director, develop, communicate and cascade group vision and develop and deploy appropriate short, medium and longer term goals via detailed strategies and plans (OGSM) in conjunction with key stakeholders. Develop and communicate inter group and external benchmarking process to ensure best practice. Develop and deliver robust KPI’s and reporting at factory and departmental level and develop reports.

The Main Accountabilities Include But Not Limited To

Safety
  • Provide sound leadership and direction to ensure all organisational H&S objectives are effectively delivered and ensure regulatory compliance.
Quality
  • Ensure adherence to site and group policies and procedures to ensure internal/ external customer expectations are met or exceeded.
Cost
  • Responsible for budgetary control across both sites and all functions. Lead and direct continuous improvement to ensure achievement of operational and business objectives
  • Delivery
  • Evaluate, plan and oversee lead time reduction programme on all critical processes in line with Group growth plans
People
  • Provide leadership for the development of direct reports, establishing measures, priorities, SMART objectives and accountability in line with company strategy and KPI’s. Lead the implementation of the Company vision and behaviours and challenge the status quo where appropriate. Ensure cascade of the PPM throughout operational management teams.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Manage OGSM deployment programme across all functions, with regular reviews to ensure activity plans are delivered on time.
Other Accountabilities
  • Ensure major capital projects are managed to cost and delivery. Manage and authorise low level revenue expenses
  • Working with the site Union, conduct pay negotiations annually and manage site industrial and employee relations effectively
  • Ensure annual targets and improvements are met.
  • Work closely with the Group functional managers to ensure group objectives are effectively communicated and delivered.
  • Work closely with the Technical & Operations Director to help develop medium to long term strategy. Ensure improvement plans and activity is consistent with Group strategy and objectives whilst ensuring consistency and best practice with other BBRG Units.
  • Working with local and central Finance to ensure cost controls are effective, and extensive reporting is accurate and directed.
  • Working with the HR team, ensure compliance with current legislation and company procedures. Develop and initiate succession plans for critical positions, participate in relevant recruitment processes and developing/designing job descriptions. Ensure that employees’ performance and behaviours is managed effectively. Support strategic training plans both personally and for subordinates.
The Role Holder Will
  • Sound understanding and proven Operational management of the following disciplines:- HS&E, Quality, Finance, Technical, Operations, Engineering and Continuous Improvement
  • Strong leadership skills, with a ‘sleeves rolled up’ approach
  • Comfortably deal with complex issues, capable and agile thinking
  • Hold frequent development reviews, constructing development plans and ensure execution
  • Set challenging and stretching objectives and targets
  • Exceed goals, bottom line orientated, pushing self and others for results
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and written
  • Dedicated to provide the highest quality to meet the requirements of internal and external customers
  • Create a learning environment
  • Extensive experience in a senior operations role.
  • Demonstrable record of achievement in driving continuous improvement
  • Working with a variety of Lean techniques and various problem solving tools such as 8D
Desirable
  • Degree level qualification
  • NEBOSH Level 3 or equivalent
  • Formal engineering qualification
  • Understanding of metallurgy & materials
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Work continuously to improve self, deploys strengths and compensates for weaknesses
  • Create focus for self and team, to ensure time spent on what is important
  • Experience within a heavy industry manufacturing environment
  • Experience of preparing budgets, capex plans and CI proposals
