The organization manages the relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express and runs the company’s payment network and manages bank partnerships globally. The objective of the GMNS Operational Excellence team is to support GMNS business partners by delivering sound risk expertise and insights that help enable business priorities while fulfilling internal and external control and compliance expectations. To that end, the team is responsible for the oversight and governance of control and compliance programs and initiatives within the business unit. This includes leading global, local and relevant legal entity activities and also includes execution against all components of the American Express Operational Risk framework.

Job Responsibilities:

The Manager, GMNS Regulatory Projects – EMEA will be responsible for supporting critical regulatory and compliance programs for the business unit globally. The role will focus on project management, tactical execution of regulatory and policy projects, and streamlined cross-functional operational processes. primarily across EMEA. Responsibilities will include:
  • Ensure timely completion of relevant regulatory and compliance program deliverables.
  • Plan and monitor project progress against timelines, milestones and deliverables
  • Provide guidance, program oversight/governance and reporting for key stakeholders.
  • Support audit, corrective action, and operational risk event remediation efforts related to relevant regulatory or compliance programs.
  • Coordinate and drive alignment of cross-functional internal and external partners. Offer of employment with American Express is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background verification check, subject to applicable laws and regulations.

  • Self-starter with strong project management experience driving complex, large-scale, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Must be able to manage multiple deliverables, meet strict deadlines and work well with different areas of the organisation
  • Problem solver and agile decision-maker with solid analytical skills.
  • Strong team player with ability to influence opinions without having direct authority.
  • Ability to develop relationships with leaders, peers, and control and compliance teams. Previous network relationships with Audit, Operational Risk, Compliance, Technology, and/or Customer Service teams preferred
  • Previous exposure to regulatory and policy compliance activities with a strong control mindset.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills allowing for clear and appropriate messaging for multiple levels/audiences, including external regulators.
  • Working hours flexibility given the international nature of the role.
  • Understanding of the merchant business, related regulatory landscape, and emerging trends/models is preferred.
  • Fluency in a European language would be advantageous but not essential.
  • University degree preferred.
  • Ability to travel (<10%).
