Billingham (home of McCoy’s, Pombear, Wheat Crunchies and more)Flexi-ShiftAs an Operational Craft Engineer, you’llprovide full Technical Engineering support to the production function under the leadership of the LST (line structure team) and by working as part of the Production team. You’llunderstand and contribute to achieving the goals of the Factory by efficiently carrying out any assigned operation or task.The aim is to manufacture the company’s product to an agreed specification in a cost effective and safe manner. You will carry out engineering activities or running the equipment. The operational engineer is required to be flexible in their working.All the activities you complete will be aligned to the Intersnack Work System (IWS) which is our organisational capability building programme aimed at achieving and sustaining breakthrough business results through 100% employee involvement and a zero loss mindset.CONTEXTThe company produces a variety of products to meet customer needs .The daily focus for everyone needs-to be on achieving the daily requirements right first time, in a safe factory environment at an improved ongoing cost.Flexibility of working hours required for training, project work or to facilitate cross- shift initiatives {e.g. continuous improvement forums).DIMENSIONSThe role will require the flexibility to work site specific shift patterns. The Operational Craft Engineer will work effectively with others as part of a team consisting of LST and other Team Members, who together possess all the skills to convert product on an hour-by-hour basis complying with quality, safety and any other legislative requirements.The role may require each Operational Craft Engineer to cover the role of others when they are away from work, including those on different shifts or stand in for maintenance lead if appropriate.KEY OUTPUTSTake personal responsibility for health, safety and environment.Ensure compliance with every day quality processes.To train, assess, coach and support all members of the team and apprentices to development engineering skills.As an engineering expert input into team action plans & continuous improvement activities, especially ref defect handling, BDE, MP&S and Autonomous Maintenance, will be a daily expectation.Assume responsibility for the mechanical and electrical integrity of equipment by carrying out the following:
  • Effective planned maintenance inspections as per plan, reviewing frequencies, parts used, meantime between failure rates
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance schedules
  • Overhaul and repair of the area
  • Complete stores requisitions for parts (JDE)
  • Continually monitor plant conditions and report defects
  • Deliver a consistent and improving area reliability through the effective management and monitoring of downtime, PPM conformance, MP&S, use of JDE and elements of the engineering budget
  • Report and present all performance matters routinely, including trends and breakdown/fault data
  • Act as the team champion of good engineering standards
  • Carry out safety checks on equipment in line with legislation and best practice
  • Ensure the Permit to Work (PTW) system is controlled in an effective and safe manner
  • To competently operate food manufacturing equipment as and when required, including changeovers
  • Help to generate and maintain compliance to JOP’s/ Risk Assessments. Carry out work in a standardised way
  • Work to reduce waste and recycle all products effectively
  • Maintain high standards of Hygiene and Housekeeping
