Onshore Wind Development Project Manager

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen to grow the RWE UK onshore wind business.

Main Purpose Of Job

As a Onshore Wind Development Project Manager you will be responsible for delivery of utility scale onshore wind projects from the point of identification, securement of all landowner agreements, progression through the full EIA and planning processes and the grid connection process, with the ultimate target of delivering consented, economically viable and buildable projects to a point ready for construction.

You will liaise with wider RWE international team colleagues to ensure that work is undertaken in line with the relevant company quality and risk management processes, alongside ensuring the requirements of the Construction Project Delivery team are met.

The Role

  • Develop utility scale onshore wind projects on and around sites in the UK, covering the full development cycle from origination to ready to build status, including greenfield developments, repowering projects and life extensions.
  • Desktop site identification, analysis & screening
  • Liaising with DNOs / TNOs regarding connection applications & offers
  • Generating site layouts to support developments
  • Run financial models throughout the development process and use price indicators to negotiate commercial terms which meet project margin requirements
  • Liaising with landowners to present / agree heads of terms, option and draft lease agreements / amendments and to facilitate access for environmental studies
  • Working with external planning and specialist consultants, planning authorities and stakeholders to obtain consent
  • Working with internal and external property and legal partners to obtain option to lease and lease agreements.
  • Monitoring and reporting on progress

Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level in Engineering, Science, Planning or relevant related discipline.
  • A strong track record and experience in utility scale onshore wind is essential
  • A strong breadth of knowledge across utility scale onshore wind developments life cycle is essential
  • Experience in assessing and delivering life extension and repowering onshore wind projects.

Experience in budget management and the specification and formal procurement of contracts for new projects

  • Excellent stakeholder management , relationship building and communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise at all levels; from landowners, general public, local authorities, statutory bodies, contractors to senior managers
  • Sound knowledge of primary Health & Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Sound knowledge of legislation and Best Practice Guidance governing the planning, permitting and development of renewable energy projects in the UK
  • Strong Commercial acumen and good understanding of full project lifetime economics, key design and financial model inputs and impact on project viability.
  • The ability to maintain high levels of drive and energy, setting personally challenging targets coupled with a strong desire to deliver individual and team results
  • Persistence in overcoming challenges and obstacles whilst being determined to ensure things happen and that all projects are delivered on time, within budget and to a satisfactory standard.
  • Able to manage and priorities workload to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong team player

There will be an expectation to travel to other offices and sites outside of your base location (including Europe/Overseas) which may involve overnight stays
