Description & Requirements

Reporting into the Occupational Health Manager- the position is responsible for supporting the Occupational Health service- which is a specialist branch of medicine that focuses on the physical and mental wellbeing of employees in the workplace.

The aim of this role is to prevent work-related illness and injury by monitoring the health of the workforce; supporting the management of sickness absence and rehabilitating employees back into the working environment.

In addition- this role will help to ensure that all legal and mandatory compliance is adhered to in regards to health surveillance- management of return to work plans- risk assessments and record keeping of highly sensitive medical information. As an autonomous practitioner- manages own work as a specialist within Occupational Health and Wellbeing.

Principal Accountabilities –
  • Assist with the implementation and sustained health surveillance programme in line with HSE guidelines and COSSH / NEBOSH standards
  • To assist the Occupational Health Manager to monitor- review and develop Occupational Health Policies and procedures to ensure they meet legislation and Dept. of Health recommendations and reflect standards of best practice.
  • Support the Occupational Health Manager and deputies as necessary
  • Support the site in developing its Mental Health wellbeing strategy.
  • Proactively support the organisation in the delivery of wellbeing initiatives.
  • Ensure legal compliance with regards to health surveillance- management of return to work plans
  • including health-related work based risk assessments- compliant record keeping and medical data confidentiality
  • Effectively conduct fitness for work Health Assessments with new starters or provide a response to line manager referrals with regards to work and health adjustments needed
  • Provide full remit of Occupational Health- working collaboratively with Health and Safety- Human Resources- Operations Management- Employees and Union.
  • Provide specialist advice to line managers and HR during period of ill health or sickness absence along with detailed medical reports summarising recommendations in accordance with best practice and the Equality Act
  • Advising relevant stakeholders of any identified issues in relation to potential or identified hazardous areas of work.
  • Attend weekly absence meetings- providing an overview of OH activities and updates on absence cases
  • Deliver presentations / training sessions to promote health and wellbeing
  • Take part in departmental audits
  • Support with facilitating environmental monitors and provide Occupational Health related support to stakeholders.

Knowledge/Experience/Compentencies

NMC Level One registration

Relevant OH Diploma or Degree within Occupational Health Management

Preferable to be on part 3 of the NMC register.
