REPORTS TO:The Nursery Manager will be responsible to the Director(s).

JOB PURPOSE

The Nursery Manager will have the overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the nursery, which involves leading a team of staff and liaising with parents. Maintaining the high standards of policy and procedure implementation withing the nursery and to make appropriate provision in line with OFSTED requirements and the Early Years Foundation Stage, ensuring a high standard of care and education for children aged 0 – 5 years.

To provide operational management of the nursery facilities and staff to ensure a balanced programme of childcare provision, delivering effective and appropriate, high quality education and childcare.

JOB DUTIES

Operational

· Adhere to all nursery policies and procedures implemented by Rosy Day Nursery, ensuring relevant legislation is met and adherence to OFSTED regulations and documentation.

· To be responsible for admissions in line with the admissions procedure for the setting.

· To keep a daily register and up to date records of all children attending Rosy Day Nursery.

· Contribute to marketing and the reputation of the company, whilst managing occupancy levels.

· Ensure appropriate ratios are met at all times in all rooms.

· Ensure no unauthorized changes are made to company paperwork.

· To liaise with the Director(s) for recruitment and selection.

· To liaise with the Director(s) for implementing training requirements.

· To be punctual and willing to do overtime when required.

· To be well presented at all times.

· To work as part of a team and on own initiative.

· To liaise with external agencies.

· Ensure regular staff meetings take place.

· Have an oversight of other roles – SENCO, Health and Safety, Child Protection Behaviour Management.

· To induct and ensure close supervision of new staff.

· To ensure the recruitment process is followed for all new staff members in order to safeguard the children.

· To assist in the annual reviews of job descriptions with Directors.

· To direct staff and lead the team by example of ‘sound / good’ practice.

· To take responsibility in conjunction with the management team for the staffing rotas and, in conjunction with the Director(s), agree all Management holiday times.

· To identify, using the Reviews and Appraisals, the training requirements of the staff and implement the appropriate training opportunities.

· To be responsible for Health and Safety issues within the nursery ensuring that all policies relevant are complied with.

· To ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Regulations, liaising directly with the Health and Safety Co – Ordinator as necessary.

· To oversee and be involved in the planning and implementation of a stimulating daily timetable of events that reflects the individual needs of the children within the nursery.

· To maintain high standards of hygiene within the setting.

· To supervise and organise mentors for all staff members and work exp4rience students

· To work with child-care training providers to enhance learning opportunities.

· To work closely with the Deputy Manager ensuring that systems are in place to allow the continued running of the facilities in the event of their absence.

· To administer first aid and medication as appropriate and refer to further emergency assistance if required. To report any accidents of staff and those of serious injury to children to OFSTED, Social Services and the Director(s).

· Dealing with personnel issues such as inductions, induction Reviews, six months reviews, annual appraisal. Including addressing any underperformance issues appropriately using Performance Management Records and the disciplinary Process

· To operate and update the computer data base for children and staff.

· Ensure all rooms are operating a key person system and that they are maintaining appropriate paperwork – planning, observations, assessments, cleaning rotas, daily registers etc.

· Having key holder responsibility, ensuring security is maintained at all times, including the opening up and the closing of the nursery at the end of the day.

· To deal with all parents’ complaints (verbal and written) with Director’s support and recording them appropriately.

· To oversee the kitchen and the documentation required to surpass local Environmental Health Inspections. This also involves preparing and cooking foods in the absence of a cook.

· To ensure all employees have all the necessary and relevant paperwork for their role and position withing the nursery – offer letter, contract, DBS etc.

Financial Operations

· To be accountable and responsible for the day-to-day financial systems directly relating to the nursery provision.

· To submit documentation for Wages and Sickness by the required dates.

· To ensure the collection of fees have been recorded (receipt book and computer system) and to ensure the safekeeping of payments.

Customer Service Operations

· To arrange regular parent’s evenings.

· To review the risk assessments and the policies and procedures.

· To ensure regular communication with parents through newsletters, information evenings, open days and open evenings.

· To actively promote the service and be involved in the seeking and retention of families, monitoring occupancy levels alongside the Director(s).

· To confirm bookings through verbal and written communication to new parents

· At all times, the nursery Manager will be expected to respect the confidentiality of sensitive family information (subject to child protection policy and procedures).

The Nursery Manager will work closely with the Director(s), information and guidance will be readily available, however the Nursery Manager will be expected to work autonomously in relation to the day-to-day Management of the nurser. The role requires the confidence to make day to day decisions thoughtfully and with a high degree of sensitivity to the needs of children and family.

To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Director(s). it is the nature of the work of Rosy Day Nursery that tasks and responsibilities are in many ways unpredictable and varied. All staff are, therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises that tasks which are not specifically covered in their job description have to be undertaken.

  • Minimum of CACHE Level 3 in Childcare (preferred)
