Working within a police custody is a fast-paced autonomous role. Whilst the police detain individuals for up to 24 hours, in that time you will be expected to care for detainees and their needs which can vary from an acute medical episode, dealing with a mental health crisis, assessment and safeguarding of Children and young people, drug and alcohol management to health promotion and advice.
Each day is different, and your skillset will be crucial at helping you navigate the considerations needed for both healthcare needs and as part of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
You will work closely alongside the police as an autonomous practitioner delivering healthcare within a busy police custody suite.
You will play an active role in the collection of forensic evidence and samples which can assist the police with their investigations.
Previous experience in any of the following would be ideal to assist you in the role; A&E, Walk in Centre, Paramedic Practitioner, Substance Misuse, Community Nursing, Police Custody, Prison, or other relevant discipline.
We provide a comprehensive training programme with an established career structure, which will enable you to become a forensic practitioner. We have established links with Staffordshire University as well as the opportunity to apply for funding for external courses. We regularly run our own in-house training and masterclasses to support our staff with their learning and development.
We also provide supervision and mentoring, and always have senior clinical advice available remotely.
