Job Vacancy – Night Warehouse Section Manager (Produce)

About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly organised Night Warehouse Section Manager (also referred to internally as Despatch Section Manager) with strong decision making and problem-solving skills to join the Nights Warehouse Team. The Despatch Section Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Produce teams within the Warehouse Despatch and for managing your team to achieve a ‘Tour Ready’ Warehouse and optimum output to the highest quality, in adherence with all relevant processes, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Health and Safety, Food Safety and Product Quality

  • Ensure that standards of health and safety, hygiene, and security are maintained
  • Ensure that all warehousing HSE and legislation requirements are adhered to
  • Educate and coach the team to adopt and embrace H&S and Food Safety standards and procedures, ensuring safety and quality are never compromised

Process

  • Effective management of the Quality Operatives and the Section Managers within your team to ensure that products are to spec, ensuring timely feedback and action of any out of spec errors. Escalate to the relevant team where input is required for resolution and support
  • Work closely with the Loading team to ensure efficient and timely flow of Despatch
  • Ensure effective handover and communication with the day shift operation to ensure opportunities to collaborate are maximised. Ensure clean as you go processes are adhered to for smooth transition
  • Review daily pick and loading errors with Section Leaders and the Loading Manager and use these errors to find potential improvements in the Picking and Loading process
  • Ensure that all routes are picked to meet deadlines while maintaining first-in-first out concept within your area Identify the appropriate key performance indicators to measure and improve efficiency and productivity of the Warehouse Despatch area you are responsible for. Conduct weekly analysis of KPI data to identify trends and improvement opportunities that should be captured and acted upon in a timely manner
  • Plan work rotas, assigning tasks appropriately and appraising results

People

  • Identify and embed daily tasks and accountabilities to empower the team to understand and deliver to the required standard, on time, in full
  • Conduct a daily team brief to encourage a two-way communication flow and ensure the team are aware of all required information to enable them to fulfil their role effectively
  • Plan work rotas, assigning tasks appropriately and appraising results
  • Ensure appraisals and development plans are in place and identify succession planning opportunities.
  • Involvement in disciplinary and grievance investigations and hearings as appropriate

Skills and Experience

  • IOSH certified (preferred but not essential)
  • NEBOSH Qualification (preferred but not essential)
  • Effective management skills
  • Proven work experience as an operational manager in fast paced environments
  • Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives
  • Knowledge of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), trends and action planning
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel) and operational systems
