Role Overview:

The successful candidate will take on networking responsibilities for our diverse MoD customer as a member of the Connectivity Team ensuring that the teams SLA’s and OLA’s are met across the client’s estate on a daily basis and in line with industry standard best practices.

They will have previous experience in maintaining an enterprise level estate using Cisco related products, and will be key in the support of our client’s infrastructure whilst providing technical support in the delivery of projects. It is important that the candidate has the knowledge and experience of using Cisco technologies and should hold valid CCNA certification.

The successful candidate will be expected to take on responsibility for performing network operational duties under the guidance and within parameters set by the technical leads. This will include one or more of the following: reporting, troubleshooting, configuration and capacity management of network equipment. To include infrastructure deployed across all of the client’s networks ensuring that the estate remains compliant for security and service patches.

The successful candidate will also be able to liaise with third parties and require the skill and knowledge to investigate problems raised as part of the clients fault resolution process. The candidate should accommodate flexible working hours and be willing to travel to other sites where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be an integral member of the support team.
  • To investigate and resolve assign incidents.
  • To action approved and designed changes.
  • To communicate with customers to provide progress reports on Incidents.
  • To identify and report on areas of known problems.
  • To monitor relevant queues within the incident reporting tool.
  • Measures and optimises infrastructure network performance.
  • Administers IT resources and networks (users, quality of service, site security, IT networks, telecommunications infrastructure, transverse applications)
  • Provides Tier 2 support, in the framework of service level agreements (SLA)
  • Must regularly inform the Team Leader or another manager regarding work and projects progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Configuration of clients network Infrastructure (including but not limited to Routing, Switching, Firewall across all networks.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Major Incident Management Process is followed for network outages.
  • Undertake investigations into network faults, security and performance issues.
  • Provide 2nd line support to the Service Desk for network fault progression (major faults and performance issues)
  • Liaise with Third Party service providers for LAN/WAN provision and maintenance
  • There may be a requirement for ad-hoc out of hours working (weekday and weekend) in support of the client’s network and delivery of projects, including travel to other sites.
  • Produce and maintain network documentation.

Essential Skills:

  • CCNA accreditation, must be working towards CCNP accreditation with the aim of full CCNP accreditation within two years.
  • Good level of knowledge and experience using Cisco technologies – to include but not exclusively;
  • Routing/Switching skills Both IOS/NX-OS.
  • Firewall skills
  • Working knowledge in support of Cisco Unified Communication applications and devices.
  • Data and Voice Cable Installation, Patching and Fault Finding
  • Strong experience in infrastructure tooling such as OTDR and Cat5/6 cable test equipment.
  • Full UK Driving License as travel to other sites will be required.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in network tooling such as Cisco Prime, Ops View (or similar).
  • Working knowledge in support of Cisco Wireless networking applications and devices.
  • An Understanding of Software Defined Networking Techniques
