In addition, although the role advertised may have a ‘home’ office base indicated, we remain committed to supporting flexibility around workplace locations. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

The successful applicant will be an NHS employee and may therefore have contact with vulnerable service users. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been necessary to take significant steps to protect the health and safety of our staff, service users and those attending our sites. Unless exempt, we encourage and support staff to be vaccinated as this remains the best line of defence against COVID-19.

Job overview

We require a highly skilled, highly motivated Physiotherapist to work as Clinical Specialist within our MSK Physiotherapy Outpatient Department and as a First Contact Practitioner (MSK) within GP surgeries.

South Kerrier Primary Care Network covers 4 practices on the mainland areas of Helston and the Lizard, and the Isles of Scilly. Our geography and population is diverse, covering areas of deprivation and rural inequalities, a naval airbase with its families and a more frail and elderly population.

Our approach to involving and empowering our people in understanding and designing our services is a key method in which we make decisions.

We pride ourselves on our collaboration across organisations and have a well-established, effective daily "huddle" with our community teams.

This allows us to create continuity and personalisation of care for our population where we always try to provide a solution to someone’s problems as close to home as possible, where the right thing to do for an individual becomes the easiest thing to do. We also understand how many of the people we care for, have complex and non-medical problems and have welcomed and embedded our amazing Social Prescribing Link Worker teams into our practices to help meet these needs.

We want you to feel very much part of our wider primary care family and integrated into the daily work of our practices . We look forward to working with you in making a difference in MSK provision in our PCN.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have substantial experience working in the MSK field at Band 6.

They will have advanced clinical reasoning skills and excellent communication skills. Working as a Clinical Specialist/ Advanced Practice Physiotherapist the post holder will assess, diagnose and provide complex rehabilitation and treatment plans, organising investigations and acting on results as required. Working as a First Contact Practitioner the post holder will provide clinical expertise, and make decisions about the best course of action for patients’ care (including in relation to undifferentiated conditions). This will involve seeing patients, without prior contact with their GP, in order to establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis and management plan, reducing the need for same day GP appointments.

The post holder(s) will be based at Helston Community Hospital and full and part time positions may be available.

The role will be supported by the National Competency Framework and each FCP will have access to the Countywide FCP network and peer support group. Additional professional development in line with the individual’s needs will be available with shadowing, e-learning, relevant training courses/conference opportunities being supported.

Working for our organisation

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you’ll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people’s homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Just over 532,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
