We are looking for a passionate, hardworking & knowledgeable member of staff with SEN experience (at least 1 year), to join the dedicated team at our well-established busy setting, helping us in providing a loving and friendly atmosphere while embedding our ethos of care, nurture, teach. Our setting has large inviting rooms, a sensory area, and a huge garden with lots of outdoor learning opportunities.

Role & Responsibilities:

As an Early Years Practitioner, your main responsibilities will be:

  • To assist with the planning of the curriculum, implementing all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for guidance, and planning learning opportunities and experiences that create a vibrant and challenging environment.
  • Working as part of a team to ensure that the rooms are ready at the beginning of each day for the children to come in to an inviting and stimulating environment.
  • Be a key person to a group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring that each child’s needs are recognised and met.
  • To work with and advise the manager of any concerns e.g. health and wellbeing of children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
  • Develop an excellent understanding of what it takes to become, or maintain, an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ grading and demonstrate this in your day-to-day practice.
  • To teach and inspire children through play, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.
  • To ensure that children are kept safe and that child protection procedures are well understood and adhered to.
  • Be an excellent role model at mealtimes and ensure that these times are engaging and encourage independence.
  • To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your own personal development.
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families, or other staff, which is acquired as part of the job.
  • To ensure that adequate records and checks are kept and updated regularly.

Key Skills & Experience:

Essential Criteria:

  • Willingness to learn and undertake further training
  • Full and relevant early years qualification at Level 2 or 3 or above
  • Previous experience of working with children from birth to five years
  • Sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years
  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Good communication skills
  • An understanding of play-based approaches to children’s learning and development
  • A commitment to continuously promoting a culture of safeguarding
  • A friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.

Desirable criteria:

  • Current Paediatric First Aid qualification.
