Imperial Recruitment Group are delighted to announce that we are working exclusively on behalf of a long established engineering client Sembcorp to recruit an Mechanical Superintendent on a Contractor basis.

Position overview:

The Mechanical Superintendent role is part of the Project Delivery Team organisation, reporting to the Project Construction Manager. Primary focus will be the responsibility to coordinate the nominated contractor’s scope of work for smooth execution as per the agreed project schedule. Coordinate with Sembcorp departments and maintain good communication with operations and engineering to ensure all elements are included. The role will have input at development / design phase to ensure that all construction activities can be delivered to mechanical completion (MC) status in preparation for the commissioning phase of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be the SEUK onsite lead for project activities, including monitoring progress and compilation of all documentation to comply with MC signoff.
  • Control and co-ordinate the activities of all engaged contractors during construction phase.
  • Proactive approach to drive the project execution to meet the schedule, recording and monitoring delays.
  • Liaise with SEUK PTW Daywork controllers for permit applications and SIMOPS coordination
  • Ensure all work is executed to the required quality standards and productively.
  • Responsible for delivery of construction to budget through adherence to plan and effective usage of all resources. Monitor costs and feedback on a regular basis any potential for overspend, ensure that the Construction Manager is made aware of the issues/impact and advise on necessary corrective actions to minimise impact on budget or schedule.
  • Work with Engineering and Operations team to determine constructability strategies and plans.
  • Positively encourage a culture of safety first.
  • Follow the management of change procedure (MOC) rigorously ensuring all changes to the issued design are captured with the use of technical queries.
  • Working with the Project Department team to develop a strategy to deliver project performance in line with commercial obligations.
  • Participate in Lessons Learned review for SEUK performance improvement.
  • Ensuring the safe testing of completed installations to achieve the necessary plant performance in accordance with project programme requirements.
  • Review and sign contractor RAMS to ensure SEUK process and procedures compliance for scope execution.

Essential

  • HNC/HND Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in power/utilities/petrochemical/oil&gas industries
  • Strong communication including writing procedures, reports, etc.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles.
  • In depth knowledge and experience in development of procedures for process, mechanical, C&I and electrical.
  • Organisational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects with shifting deadlines.

  • Competency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is a must.

Desirable

  • Trade certification in any of the following disciplines mechanical/piping.
  • BS7121 Appointed Person for lifting qualification.
