We are searching for an innovative Mechanical Engineer with product design experience to drive product development! Reporting to the Product Engineering Manager for Fall Protection, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new or enhance existing fall protection products and related components that meet and exceed customer expectations. Responsibilities:
What you will do - the role:
  • Coordinate and lead project teams.
  • Work with customers, both internal and external, to determine product design requirements.
  • Develop innovative product designs that meet or exceed customer expectations as well as agency standards.
  • Complete risk analyses, design calculations, FMEA’s and design reviews, to verify that designs meet or exceed product specifications.
  • Develop an effective test plan, coordinate efforts to test the design, and utilize statistical methods to verify performance.
  • Produce product engineering samples utilising various prototyping technologies.
  • Produce drawings and technical files to document the design.
  • Work with global operations teams to ensure the product is manufacturable within cost expectations.
  • Lead a cross-functional project team to ensure effective production phase-in.
  • Complete projects on-time and on-budget, delivering innovative and proven solutions.
  • Present project updates (progress, schedule, spending) to management.
  • Maintain all project documentation and files, in line with company procedures, to ensure accurate handover to production and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Provides supervision and guidance as appropriate and acts as a problem-solving resource to other engineering staff.

What you need:

Experience Required:
  • Proficiency with Solidworks and/or ProEngineer
  • Industrial experience in a similar NPD environment
  • Demonstrable creative problem solving and product development experience
  • Knowledge of testing and product approval processes
  • Knowledge and understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and work effectively with others in a dynamic team environment.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence attitudes and behaviors.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex tasks, solve technical problems, anticipate issues and challenges, make sound technical decisions, and work effectively in diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Personal initiative; ability to drive projects through to completion.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • A growth mindset; a desire to learn and develop.
  • Solid writing, presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills and a customer-based perspective.
Experience Preferred:
  • Project management
  • Familiarity with fall protection equipment and concepts.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, CSA and European standards and test procedures.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools including designed experimentation and measurement systems analysis.
  • Familiarity with Minitab statistical software.
  • Familiarity with tolerance analysis and geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing methods.
  • Familiarity with ANSYS finite analysis software (static and dynamic simulations).
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods and materials for metal, plastic, and elastomeric components.
Education:
  • Engineering Degree - Bachelors required, Masters Preferred
