About The Opportunity

Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Mathematician, Probabilist or Statistician to work with our ANSWERS Software Service.

We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in the design & implementation of complex mathematical and statistical algorithms primarily for the Monte Carlo simulation of radiation transport and the quantification of uncertainty in the results of complex nuclear modelling calculations. Experience of a direct interface with existing clients & the international R&D community, as well as the generation of new business would be an advantage. Excellent software skills in a variety of languages including Python, Java and Fortran would also be useful for algorithm implementation.

We can offer the opportunity to work in a variety of technical teams performing analysis work for a broad range of established and cutting-edge reactor designs. Typical tasks may include optimising our codes for use on HPCs, or working on the coupling of our codes to others to investigate the effects on convergence.

This role will present excellent opportunities for the continual development of skills and experience in mathematics, probability and statistics, particularly where these are applied to nuclear engineering; also, the potential to lead technical developments and collaborations, working with the team responsible for their implementation. We also work collaboratively with leading UK universities, and can offer the opportunity to publish work and attend international conferences.

This role will be based at our Dorchester office with the opportunity to travel to client sites, as required.
