We’re currently looking for a talented Mathematician to join our team. You’ll be working in the world of intelligent automation - using robotics, artificial intelligence, and data science to deliver on customer projects and work on our own products which are set to disrupt the logistics industry.

If you’re passionate about working on systems that will make a difference to global infrastructure, or you’re keen on solving complex real-world problems, then you’re in the right place. As a core member of the team, you’ll have freedom to create and be instrumental in developing mathematical simulations, algorithms and machine learning based solutions to assess and deliver bespoke solutions to our customers.

At Tharsus, you’ll work with new and exciting technologies.

As a Mathematician, you’ll be working alongside a team of software engineers, mathematicians, and world leading universities to research, advance and integrate the state of the art into our products. We utilise the latest technologies and analytical tools to ensure that we deliver the best possible solutions to our customers.

An ideal candidate should hold an MSc in Mathematical Sciences, Computer Science, or a similar field. You’ll have some experience, ideally in both academic and industrial research and development environments. We ask that you have excellent scientific computing skills and have proficiency in programming in C++ or Python. We also ask that you have good knowledge of data analytics and visualisation with a track record of a data driven, analytical, mind-set.

You should also be eager to learn new technologies and research the latest advancements in your field.

You should apply if

  • The work we’re doing sounds exciting to you!
  • You’re a mathematician at heart with a passion for algorithms and data science.
  • You have experience breaking down problems to first principles and developing modelling tools to solve them.
  • You’re curious and enthusiastic about finding new ways to use mathematical techniques to solve real world problems.
  • Learning new things is something you relish and you’re passionate about applying yourself to solve problems.
  • Have an innate curiosity about data that has led to continuous learning and problem-solving through outstanding mathematical, analytical, and statistical skills.
  • Be proficient in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, forecasting, predictive analytics, multivariate testing, and optimisation algorithms, as well as having experience in applying supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
  • You’d like to work with world leading universities to bring their research and expertise to our products.

Don’t meet every single requirement?

Studies have shown that some groups of people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Tharsus we are working to build a diverse and inclusive workplace, if you’re excited about this position but your experience doesn’t perfectly fit with everything in this job description, we encourage you to apply. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles.

Our team members have a variety of background

The people in our team come from backgrounds in robotics, physics, mathematics, data science, psychology, embedded systems, and computer science. Some have experience in large corporations, other have only ever worked for Tharsus. One person loves pottery, another likes flying planes we’re a varied bunch and that’s important to us.

We invest in our people

We want to grow our people; we can do this in many ways and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. We all have preferences. From sponsoring people to do their PhD to Udemy courses, the possibilities to learn here are vast. Ask for what you want, and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Other important stuff

We’ll pay you fairly and endeavour to remain competitive - with a salary based on experience.

For this role, we are looking for someone who would be able to come to our headquarters in Northumberland when needed, as well as to travel to meet customers, mainly in the UK. The team is distributed around the globe, but to work with the wider business, it will be useful for you to visit the office occasionally.

Our interview process is typically:

  • an initial video call with a member of the team,
  • a coding task for you to do in your own time
  • a final stage interview. If possible, it’d be great for you to visit us for this so that we can show you more of what we do.
