The role

We are currently recruiting a Planning Manager within our Structural Products division based in Oldbury. As the Planning Manager you will be responsible and accountable for determining the production capacity needed by the site to meet changing demands for its products and undertake planning activities to ensure targets are met, whilst optimising manufacturing efficiency, stock levels and costs and plan for future capacity requirements.

The role will also have people management responsibility of a small team consisting of Production Admin, Detailers and Transport Planning.

  • Plan production workload to deliver maximum customer service within the Supply Chain.
  • Work with sales team to ensure production schedules/output meets customer demand.
  • Facilitate cross functional co-ordination between sales, supply chain and engineering.
  • Analyse specifications and capacity and undertake appropriate calculations to estimate appropriate calculations to estimate job requirements in terms of labour, tools, materials and resources.
  • Support the drive for a process thinking culture which is performance based and looking for continuous improvement at all levels at the order management stage.
  • Translate the Master Production Capacity plan into finite schedules, recognising the limits of production capacity.
  • Manage deviations from the plan that have a financial impact.
  • Monitor key manufacturing processes for capacity and demand, identify capacity constraints and provide analysis.
  • Be accountable for developing and setting policies for planning rules, data accuracy, measurement and reporting.
  • Create / Simulate customer order production plans.
  • Monitor productivity performance and maintain metrics to demonstrate; Lead time schedule performance, reduction in lead times and optimise capacity utilisation.
  • Maintain ERP Item data – Bills of Materials & Routings.
  • Complete full contract review of all orders placed.
  • Manage sub-contract lead times to ensure final delivery commitments are met.
  • Manage the scheduling of incoming materials from suppliers using available forecasts to anticipate and mitigate issues.
  • Analyse daily operational data to ensure short and long term KPI’s are being met
  • Lead Continuous improvement, H&S and 5S programs/projects.
  • Coach and develop team that meets agreed objectives, delivers best practice results and works to make continuous improvement.

The candidate

  • Previous experience in Planning/Production Scheduling within a fast paced manufacturing environment is essential
  • A good understanding of production processes and resource planning with the ability to solve everyday production problems
  • Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including and the ability to learn/implement new software packages. Previous experience with ERP Systems required – LN an advantage
  • Experience with lean production concepts and tools with the ability to lead Continuous improvement, H&S and 5S programs.
  • Commercial and financial awareness, with full understanding of the impact of failure with regards to business costs, production targets and fulfilment of customer orders.
  • Excellent communication skills – able to communicate complex concepts to others
  • Proven people management skills
  • Analytical and organisational skills
