Job Title: MARKETING MANAGER (Maternity Cover from 1 February 2024 until 28 February 2025, subject to the employee’s return)

Location:Abbot’s Acre, Sherborne School

Salary:£35,195.10 per annum

Reporting to:Head of Marketing (Sherborne Group)

Hours of Work:37.5 hours per week. Hours of work are likely to be 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday less half an hour for lunch, but flexibility in hours will be required on occasion to meet the demands of the post in particular to support evening and weekend events.

Holidays:5 weeks holiday per year + Bank Holidays. Attendance will be required on Bank Holidays that fall during term time, for which time off in lieu will be given.

Probationary Period: In accordance with School policy, all appointments are subject to a six-month probationary period.

Main Purpose:

Sherborne is seeking a creative and dynamic marketing professional with significant experience in content marketing. The Marketing Manager will focus on the development, management and optimisation of the School’s online and offline communications channels. With a heavy skew towards digital, the post holder will lead on external digital communication management, including active participation in social media platforms.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing (Sherborne Group), the Marketing Manager will champion marketing across all departments and areas of the School, Commercial Team and wider Sherborne School Group to facilitate an on-going, frequent flow of quality, useable content for curation across owned and earned marketing communications channels.

This is a pivotal role within the Commercial Team and will be instrumental in supporting on a range of activities and new creative initiatives designed to grow the School’s audience segments and maximise brand recognition and growth whilst helping to generate commercial income for the Sherborne Group.

Duties - this is not intended to be a comprehensive list of the tasks that will be covered.

  • Manage regular marketing communications to a range of audience segments across the School’s online and offline platforms. Including: website news, social media posts, termly newsletters, prospectus and annual publications.
  • Build relationships with and secure buy-in from multiple internal stakeholders to ensure a continual flow of content for curation across the School’s online channels that showcase the breadth and depth of School life.
  • Support the Commercial Team by overseeing content curation, liaising with team members to ensure a regular and consistent social media presence.
  • Research, design, implement and manage a sustainable content process that facilitates the content flow requirements.
  • Manage specific events, advertising and liaising with relevant departments before and during events.
  • Taking responsibility for the School’s digital advertising and advising the Commercial Team (Leisure and Trading) on digital advertising where possible co-ordinating a joined-up approach
  • Lead on the design, creation, production and distribution of event promotional material.
  • Manage the School website and lead upon the development and creation of new and engaging content as well as monitoring and maintaining the website regularly.
  • Provide training on the website Content Management System to empower stakeholders to create and update web pages.
  • Commission, create and edit AV requirements to create dynamic photo and video content.
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy encompassing all relevant platforms to maximise engagement and reach amongst existing and prospective audience segments.
  • Actively monitor and engage with online communities appropriately and positively in line with the aims and ethos of School.
  • Create monthly analytical reports using GA, Hootsuite and social media insights to influence and direct digital marketing.
  • Keep abreast and make recommendations of developments in social media, SEO and paid digital channels.
  • Take responsibility for recording and analysing KPI’s and the reporting of these into the Admissions and Marketing meetings
  • Take responsibility for the department during times when the Head of Marketing (Sherborne Group) is not on site and to deputise for the Head of Marketing (Sherborne Group) in her absence.
  • Alongside the Head of Marketing (Sherborne Group), work with the Marketing Officer (SPS) to ensure digital content and communications are maintained across the Sherborne Group
  • Be responsible for organising the annual creative assets and liaising with external agencies, supported by the Head of Marketing (Sherborne Group). Specifically leading upon photography and videography planning and the creation of briefs for external agencies.
  • To work closely with designers and printers to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget
  • Help to manage the School’s relationship with external contractors e.g. designers, printers, video production and agencies etc.
  • The end-to-end management of the annual production of the Shirburnian and the termly newsletters
  • A review of all communications annually to assess their effectiveness.
  • Ensure consistency of brand and Tone of Voice.
  • Oversee the continued development of evolving digital communications.
  • To work closely with the Marketing Officer (SPS) and the Admissions and Marketing Assistant to provide support and guidance over marketing. This will involve regular meetings, along with the Head of Marketing (Group), with the marketing team in order to mentor and develop these individuals.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • A relevant degree, professional marketing qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of using website Content Management System.
  • Knowledge and experience in digital advertising and the desire to undertake CPD and upskill the wider Commercial Team members to achieve maximum ROI
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage, influence and work positively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to effectively prioritise multiple projects and manage multiple channels simultaneously.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Clear, concise and accurate copywriting style combined with strong proof-reading skills.

Desirable Experience:

  • Video editing and photography experience.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud suite, including InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Independent school sector.
  • Experience in managing earned channels; proactively managing and securing PR opportunities to promote a product or service.
