Job Purpose

As we continue to develop and grow our global Metals team, we are looking for a passionate and driven reporter to join our team. You will initially be focusing on a selection of minor metals with end-use applications ranging from automotive and batteries to aerospace.

This is an excellent opportunity to forge your career covering the economically and politically influential sector of commodities, energy and metals. You will apply and develop your skills across daily news reporting, market analysis, features and editorials in this fast-paced environment with the highest standards of journalistic independence and integrity. There are opportunities to travel and present papers at industry conferences and lead webinar sessions.

As part of a team you will make twice weekly metals price assessments in a sector of the international market and write frequent market commentaries and news. Being part of a small team also means there will be cross-training and plenty of opportunity to gain experience of other metals markets, along with the opportunity to learn from our experienced Reporters/Editors.

Key responsibilities*

Monitor and assess markets to produce twice weekly price assessments and market commentaries, as well as frequent news/analysis.

  • Daily contact with traders, brokers, industrial groups and other key market participants to build relationships and gather news
  • Contribute copy to relevant daily and periodical publications and the on-line news service
  • Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus Media externally.

Skills and Experience*

*
A graduate with a strong degree

  • Proven ability to develop, source and write industry-relevant news to deadline is preferred
  • Knowledge of the commodity, energy and metals/mining sectors is preferred
  • Excellent written, grammatical and numeracy skills, and ability to write engaging content
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to network and build contacts with industry executives
  • Prior experience of working in the financial, energy or metals/mining journalism sector is useful but not essential
  • Strong co-ordination and time management skills with the ability to work well within a team
  • Additional languages (in particular Russian) useful but not essential
