Do you love the sea and boats? Our client is looking to take on a Maritime Assistant who will be based within any of Cornwall’s beautiful Ports and Harbours. This is initially a temporary role for minimum of 3 months over the summer.

The role is to undertake general maritime duties associated with a harbour/pier authority and will involve working afloat and ashore, dealing with bye-law enforcement, , moorings, laid up shipping berths, commercial cargo vessels, and maintenance of boats, plant and structures.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with harbour conservancy including buoy laying and mooring maintenance, harbour patrols, wreck removal and clearance
• Act as coxswain or crew on any of our client’s craft together with undertaking maintenance of vessel and its equipment
• Undertake mooring work on commercial vessels
• Operate wet dock gates
• Assist Senior Maritime Assistance in all aspects of management of leisure moorings including allocations, siting, mooring maintenance and checking of positions
• Assist with maintenance of all Maritime assets including re-pointing quay walls, road linding and general property maintenance
• To assist in any emergency, i.e. fire on vessels, salvage, search and rescue etc and undertake any clean-up operation following a pollution incident
• Collect income from harbour users and maintain satisfactory records
• To be able to drive a selection of vehicles i.e. van, pick-up and undertake training, if necessary, for towing.

Requirements:

• Be able to demonstrate some prior knowledge and understanding of maritime industry
• Able to handle small craft, including a workboat and various patrol craft
• You will have experience in undertaking maintenance tasks
• Display empathy and patience when dealing with customers and possess good interpersonal and social skills
• Have the ability to work on your own initiative
• Have a knowledge of basic IT skills
• Possess a full UK Driving Licence.
