The Role

Reporting directly to our Chief Harbour Master, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Forth and Tay Navigation Service, and ensuring that our Marine Service Safety Management System operates correctly and complies with the PMSC.

Key tasks are ensuring incidents and near misses are investigated in a timely manner, audits are carried out on time, and other management systems such as quality or energy management are kept up to date. The SMS covers all ports in Scotland and the Port of Tilbury. You will provide regular update reports for the Marine Management Team so that any issues on the Rivers Forth, Tay and Tilbury are quickly addressed.

Other duties will include taking a lead role in our Emergency Planning activity to ensure that all emergency plans are up-to-date, properly tested and comply with the relevant legislation. You will also be responsible for the issuing of licences for Marine Operations and Towage.

You must be a self-starter with excellent organisational skills. As Compliance Manager, you must be able to demonstrate careful attention to detail and apply the rigour necessary to tackle any non-compliance issues promptly and thoroughly.

Candidate Requirements

STCW certification or Port related qualifications or experience in managing teams of people in a 24/7 environment with SMS compliance management is essential. Knowledge of specific SHEQ Management Systems and the Port Marine Safety Code is desirable.
