Job content

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Jacksons Bakery for a Manufacturing Manager based at our factory in Corby.

Reporting to our Head of Operations, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our Genner Road, Corby Bakery running a 24/7 four shift pattern (this is not a shift role). You will lead a manufacturing team to deliver 1 million loaves of bread a week, working cross functionally with colleagues from other parts of the business. Basically, you’ll be responsible for the raw materials coming into the factory to the finished product going out (and every step of the production process in between) through your team. You will lead your team and develop the culture in this relatively new site to live the Jacksons values. Through your leadership, you will not only increase productivity, but you will continue to build the capability in your team. Product quality and safety are of paramount importance.

Your day will vary from improving employee engagement and developing your teams to getting your hands dirty to fix production issues and managing employee relations matters.

What’s Involved?

  • Lead a team of approximately 80 colleagues made up of operators, team leaders and shift managers covering 4 shifts to deliver the KPIs and work collaboratively with other disciplines across the site.
  • Balance cost / quality / time to meet production targets to deliver factory KPIs to ensure we reach our 1 million loaves target, ensuring Health and Safety and Food Safety are never compromised.
  • Proactively drive operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives, always keeping an eye on your metrics of throughputs, yields, waste, downtime, labour, service, complaints, quality and hygiene.
  • Tackle problems before they escalate and create the 100 year fix.
  • Make sure the bakery complies with all necessary legislative and customer requirements.
  • Manage customer site visits ensuring the factory is always audit ready and that food safety and quality are of the highest standards, particularly around HACCP systems & controls.
  • Continue to build a ‘Great Place to Work’ through creating a culture in line with the Jacksons values which focuses on learning and high performance establishing our Corby site as a desirable employer in the local area.

About you

You’ll have a sound background in leading an operations or manufacturing team, preferably in food, and can manage a 24/7 operation standing on your head. Safety and the welfare of your team are at the top of your priority list as you know the benefits of having an engaged team. You will lead from the front, not afraid to dip into the detail and make tactical decisions as well as taking an overview and looking at the bigger picture when needed. Resilient and adaptable, you will have the confidence and willingness to get underneath issues to resolve and fix them whether that’s about the process, the kit or your people. You will be a great communicator with the ability to form trusted relationships with all colleagues. You will be keen to continually develop your own skills and capability to grow as the Corby site reaches its full potential.

A little bit about us and our history

Jacksons is part of William Jackson Food Group, a sixth-generation family business founded by William Jackson when he opened his first shop in Hull in September 1851. Today we have a portfolio of four food businesses in distinct, yet complimentary market areas, employing over 2,000 people.

Our Corby site opened in 2018 – one of the largest investments our Group has ever made – and this will allow us to realise our ambition of being the best at what we do.

We have occupied the current site in Hull since 1907 and we now have 3 bread plants in our main bakery. We developed a second bakery, also at our site in Hull, which specialises in premium quality roll production.

We specialise in the supply of bread and other carriers to the sandwich manufacturers, foodservice, and export channels, and in 2012 we launched our consumer facing brand “Jackson’s of Yorkshire”.

We have recently won the Grocer Gold award for Business Initiative of the Year and a customer award with Coop.

This is an exciting time to join us – if we’ve sparked your interest, please apply clicking the link below. Make this year a toast to you and apply now!

Please note we reserve the right to close this recruitment campaign before the advertised closing date. As such, we advise you to submit your application at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.
