Position: Manufacturing Engineer Location: Oldbury Package: £28k-£35k + £3k Shift Allowance Job Summary You will be expected to apply your technical knowledge and expertise in the development and implementation of new and improved manufacturing processes, procedures and equipment. You must ensure that the design specification of equipment, tooling, fixtures etc. meet the company’s requirements and objectives. You will be required to supervise a small team of Operatives, monitor their skills, support with training where necessary and ensure their focus is on supplying customer orders to the required Quality level and in time to the Production Plan. You’ll be concerned with assisting the Engineering Manager to achieve an excellent service to all Machine Shop customers both internal and external as well as keeping up-to-date with the market and industry information. This position is for a strong engineer who can also demonstrate strong Leadership skills. Has a “can-do” attitude, is hands-on, fully flexible, committed to doing the best job possible and takes ownership and will demonstrate pride in their work. Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, co-ordinate, lead and participate in various multi-disciplined teams in addressing and fulfilling Company objectives associated with the Machine Shop.
  • Responsible for volume outputs, scrap/rework, quality, safety and delivery commitments
  • Run trials for new products
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery are kept in good running order
  • Recommend new equipment when and where necessary
  • Use all Machine Shop machinery/equipment proficiently in conjunction with the Engineering Manager
  • Organise and manage a team effectively to ensure the production plan is adhered to at all times
  • Monitor the skills of the Team and train your team where necessary.
  • Liaise with other Departmental Managers to ensure that all client deadlines are met in a timely manner
  • Champion continuous improvement programs within the department
  • Work independently and interdependently within various inter-departmental teams.
  • Follow the training you receive when using any work items given to you
  • Take reasonable care of your own and other people’s health and safety
  • Co-operate with your employer on health and safety
  • Tell someone (supervisor, or health and safety representative) if you think the work or inadequate precautions are putting anyone’s health and safety at serious risk
  • Support the company with environmental initiatives and any compliance issues Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics together with an HNC in Engineering Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience of working as an Engineer in a Machining facility, preferably steel orientated. Experience of milling, grinding, and turning is required. Required Skills and Abilities
  • Consistent solid business ethics and integrity
  • Personable individual with excellent interpersonal skills and can demonstrate effective communication at all levels
  • Expert in the use of CNCs, Lathes, Grinders and Millers
  • CNC programming essential in FANUC and Siemens controls
  • The ability to read drawings successfully (CAD/CAM)
  • The ability to expose and solve problems in a manufacturing environment
  • Customer focussed with a strong understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements.
  • The ability to work on their own initiative whilst remaining a team player
  • The ability to supervise a small Team, motivate them, and ensure that they have all the information, knowledge and tools required to satisfy the Production Plan and Customer expectations.

  • Motivated to succeed ensuring targets are met and quality is not compromised Physical Demands As many hours as it takes to perform your duties effectively but a minimum 37 hours, however you will be expected to be flexible to suit the business requirements across both shifts. Shift patterns are; Monday to Thursday: 06:00 to 14:00 and 14:00 to 22:00 Friday: 06:00 to 12:40 and 12:40 to 19:20 Your role will be Oldbury based and you may have to travel overseas to visit other business sites/customers/suppliers or to attend meetings, training and conferences
