Purpose of Job
A fantastic opportunity for a qualified early years practitioner to join a great team at Victoria House Day Nursery where we have completely renovated the nursery to provide a beautiful and safe place for the children and staff.
This is an exciting opportunity for an existing manager or an experienced deputy wishing to further their career in a setting that has just been accredited as ’Good’ by Ofsted.
Main duties and responsibilities
To provide a safe, happy and secure environment and to be aware of the health and safety of the children, colleagues and parents at all times.
- To strive for an ‘Outstanding’ setting.
- Be a proactive manager as well as a reactive manager. Keep abreast of the ever-changing world of childcare and its best practise.
- Ensure the delivery of creative play and learning opportunities in a safe and caring environment.
- To comply with the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Statutory Framework.
- Take responsibility for day-to-day staffing and child ratios within the nursery.
- Take overall responsibility for and liaise with the clubs managers.
- To ensure registers are fully and accurately completed.
- To ensure all staff holiday and overtime is correctly recorded and that cover is in place during such times of holiday or sickness.
- To be the first point of contact for sickness or staff absence.
- To ensure that there are enough bank staff with flexibility in order to cover shifts and absences as you require.
- To ensure that nursery show rounds are carried out in a timely and professional manner and that a childcare space is filled where possible.
- To ensure that Facebook and other social media is up to date and topical.
- To deal with complaints to closure or escalate to directors where necessary.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Effective management of staff at all levels.
- To work closely with parents in regard to their child’s needs and offer support where necessary along with working with 3rd party agencies where additional advice and support is needed.
- To work within agreed policies and procedures and ensuring that all staff do too.
- To organise and supervise students and apprentices.
- To ensure all new staff are inducted
- To monitor and manage nursery cleanliness and tidiness both inside and out.
- To organise and chair staff meetings.
- To ensure that room and nursery evaluations are fully completed for OFSTED
- To ensure that all planning and observations are completed to a very high standard and that books, paperwork and tapestry is completed correctly, timely and to a high standard. Paperwork will include but not exhaustive to accident forms, medicine forms & incident forms.
- To motivate staff, guide and assist them with any weaknesses. Recommending further training where necessary.
- To work with colleagues at the nursery to ensure high standards are maintained for OFSTED and the reputation of the nursery.
- To actively promote nursery availability at all opportunities and increase occupancy where possible.
- To ensure the nursery is securely locked and that alarms are set for evenings, weekends and shutdown period.
- To ensure any additional sessions requested are communicated to the directors.
- To maintain the fire drill routine and hold regular practise drills.
- To carry out other duties as required and as commensurate with the post.
