Nature & Scope

Play a key role in providing an excellent service to the directors and senior leads within Asset Management and DSO. Working collaboratively with other Finance professionals, produce regular and ad-hoc reports that provide meaningful insights into the performance of the business. Key to success will be the ability to exercise objectivity and challenge Management at the appropriate time using information gleaned from the data to support your arguments.

You will operate on your own initiative for much of the time and it is important you are a motivated self-starter.

The team is part of Finance Business Partnering, which supports the entire company to improve results. This provides much greater opportunity for career development.

The role is flexibly based but the choices are London, Bury St Edmunds or Crawley and may require some travel between the locations to meet with stakeholders.

It is anticipated that you will undertake this role with a high degree of autonomy, so you will be a self-starter who likes to work on your own initiative. Your manager is there to support you throughout.

Dimensions

Asset Management has its own annual budget of approximately £42m but is responsible for the overall Asset Portfolio Plan circa £570m. The DSO has an annual budget of £23m, but this is expected to grow as we move further into the ED2 Regulatory period.

Role

The purpose of the role is to provide an excellent service to the Asset Management Directorate as well as to the newly formed DSO (Distribution System Operator) Directorate, including monthly reporting, financial budgeting and forecasting. The role requires excellent analysis and interpretation skills to distil insights form the information and communicate these effectively to decision makers who will then be held to account against the commitments they make. In addition, the job role holder will be expected to work with the business to drive continuous improvement in the financial and operational performance of both DSO & Asset Management.

Principal Accountabilities:
Leading the budgeting process to ensure the business requirements are met or exceeded. The budget will be fully integrated to incorporate targets for non financial outputs.
Producing regular accurate forecasts of year end out-turn with Director sign off to enable re-planning of resources that will remain focussed on achieving the overall goals.

Preparing accurate and timely the monthly performance packs as well as producing ad-hoc reports to provide key insights to business to support decision making.
Identifying opportunities, potential areas of risk and recommend options for action including areas of cost reduction, improved ways of working, investigating key variances and assisting to implement improvement plans if deviations occur.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
Qualified accountant (member CCAB or equivalent)

Track record of delivering results and challenging inefficient orthodoxies

Strong accounting and analytical skills with a very strong commercial aptitude

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels
Ability to work effectively & proactively on own initiative and autonomously, without close supervision
Ability to plan, project manage and co-ordinate effectively
Energetic and resilient personality
Strong IT skills, including SAP and Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint.
A current driving licence with access to car and the ability to work flexibly throughout the year are essential.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
