What is the purpose of the role?

The purpose of the Maintenance Technician is to undertake planned and reactive maintenance work on highways control technology installations throughout Scotland. This includes CCTV, Traffic Monitoring Units, Variable Message Signs, Emergency Telephones and other in-station and out-station equipment, mainly motorway based.

You will form part of a multi-disciplinary team providing frontline maintenance services to ensure availability and safety of operation of Transport Scotland roadside technology assets on Scottish motorways and trunk roads.

What will this role involve?

    • Undertake inspections and diagnostic checks on highways control technology and electrical assets in line with planned and reactive maintenance.
    • Response to urgent faults and emergency repairs.
    • Completion of planned preventative maintenance and inspections and reporting in line with defined schedules.
    • Ensure that all work is carried out to current electrical and highway communications standards.
    • Timely submission of maintenance work orders and preparation of reports as necessary.
    • Reporting and liaison with third parties in relation to the maintenance highways communications infrastructure and sites.
    • You will also be required to work on a standby rota.

What are we looking for?

    • National certificate in an electronic / electrical discipline, or vocational qualifications in the electrotechnical or telecommunications field.
    • Preferably experienced in a field installation and servicing role, although not essential.
    • Able to follow and understand specifications relating to the installation and safety of electrical and/or communication infrastructure.
    • Able to follow electrical / electronic schematic diagrams and install to specification.
    • Self-motivated and able to plan own workloads.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Competent in the use of hand/powered tools and test equipment required to maintain, test and re-commission systems.
    • Generally fit and able to work at height or in confined spaces.
    • Valid driving licence
