Bristol Zoological Society is looking for a Maintenance Technician to work at Wild Place Project. This is an exciting opportunity to join the maintenance team in helping to maintain and develop the Wild Place Project site into the New Bristol Zoo. We are seeking a self-motivated person with a keen eye for detail and possess impeccable working standards. Experience and a good working knowledge of carpentry and construction is essential. A solid understanding of plumbing, building and electrical work is also desirable, alongside a decent range of trade skills and an understanding of PPM regimes.

Desirable – NVQ in either Carpentry / Groundworks / Brickwork / Plumbing / Electrical

Applicants must have a friendly, professional manner and be ready to welcome guests to the attraction and help to inspire them with discoveries of wild life and our onsite activities. It is also essential that you are confident and courteous with guest interaction. This is a multifaceted role working as part of the maintenance team at a constantly developing wildlife attraction. All applicants must enjoy working outdoors whatever the weather, and be willing to support the team in extra duties. Main duties of your role will include, but not be limited to;

  • Installation and maintenance of fence lines
  • Construction and maintenance of both new and existing enclosures and animal houses
  • Maintaining functional operations of onsite facilities (toilets, lights, paths, gates, etc.)
  • Carrying out routine Planned Preventative Maintenance works across site.
  • Maintenance and refurbishment works on properties across site (painting windows, fixing doors, installing stud walls, etc.)
  • Dual site working when required, occasional days at Bristol Zoo Gardens, from January 2023 cross site working will become more frequent.

An understanding of conservation would be desirable, however we believe your passion will become as great as ours on your journey with us. Flexibility is required as Wild Place Project operates for 364/5 days and you will be working as part of a departmental rota which includes weekends and Bank Holidays. Our operational hours also vary in summer/winter.
