Position: Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Specification:

  • Responsible for assisting in all machinery, plant and building maintenance in a high-speed steel reinforcing mesh factory.
  • Considerable emphasis must be placed upon a rapid response to machine breakdowns due to the necessity to minimise delays in the manufacturing process or machine standing time.
  • To undertake responsibility for the analysis and repair of Mechanical & Electrical maintenance.
  • Basic Hydraulic, Pneumatic and PLC Knowledge is an advantage
  • To demonstrate a right first-time attitude and ensure that any enforced temporary repairs are duly recorded and that the appropriate repairs are completed satisfactorily when scheduled.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and have a can-do attitude to the job.

Content of the position:

  • To ensure all H&S, hygiene and quality control procedures are adhered to.
  • To repair breakdowns of factory equipment efficiently.
  • To maintain equipment in accordance with agreed schedules.
  • To ensure the service and work area is kept clean and tidy.
  • The nature of the position means that you will work in an environment with moving machinery and with a constant level of noise while the machines are powered up or running. Protective equipment is supplied to protect you and those under your supervision under these working conditions.
  • As a Maintenance Engineer you are expected to be self-reliant, able to take decisions quickly on own behalf, and to distinguish situations where problems should be referred to a Departmental or Senior Manager.
  • You must show an ability to be able to follow internal procedures, written and verbal instructions and be able to communicate machine or breakdown situations effectively to your colleagues. The work is very hands on, and training is given “on the job”.
  • You will join our company via an agency where you will be required to complete their requirement of x12 weeks whereafter you will be employed on a permanent contract and then qualify for the structure shown below.

The initial salary structure offered for this role is:

  • £15 per hour based on a standard 40 hours per week, initially starting at 0600hrs to 1600hrs Monday to Thursday, for a period of three months, referred to as the probationary period. After successful completion of the probationary period the basic rate will rise to £15.91 per hour still based on a 40-hour week but rotating between days and nights on a weekly basis, the hours of which are Days 0600hrs to 1600hrs, and Nights 2000hrs to 0600hrs Monday to Thursday.
  • After completion of the probationary period, you will then start a qualifying year where an additional yearly attendance bonus of £600 will be paid. There is also a production bonus paid monthly which can (and has) equated to 13% of your monthly salary.
  • Holidays are accrued during the year which amount to 5.6 weeks per annum including public holidays and can be taken at any time except for the three maintenance shutdown periods, being Easter, first two weeks of August and Christmas.
