The Role

The position has overall responsibility for the outward bound goods at the manufacturing plant. This includes goods out warehouse management, inventory control and finished goods shipping, in accordance with all transport requirements and regulations such as dangerous goods, exports and airfreight security.

They are responsible for setting the overall short, medium and longer term strategy for the department, taking into account the changes associated with Brexit and other changes in legislation.

They are responsible for data integrity and the flow of information as the main point of contact for any issues that may delay shipments to our customers. They provide leadership and coordinate all activities of the shipping department, as well as management of our external providers.

Accountabilities

  • Setting overall short, medium and longer term strategy for the department, taking into account changes in legislation (e.g. Brexit) and ensure we have efficient and effective systems in place.
  • Responsible for customer satisfaction when it comes to logistics and all related activities. Will be the key point of contact for queries and complaints, including problem solving and resolving specialist and involved issues.
  • Ensuring that the ‘Clean, Calm, Motivated and Safe’ measures and actions are consistently carried out and are aligned with targets.
  • Reviewing requirements for and implementing/communicating any changes relating to ADR and IATA.
  • Managing the criteria around Known Consignor.
  • Responsible for selecting carriers that meet the service and cost needs of the business and can manage the routes required.
  • Negotiating carriage costs with shipping firms and leading tenders as required.
  • Accountable for ensuring end product is received, stored and shipped in accordance with all regulatory requirements e.g. DGSA, Export documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Management of the Shipping Department responsible for the storage and shipment of finished products, in accordance with all transport requirements and regulations such as dangerous goods, exports and airfreight security.
  • Management of operational costs in line with expectations.
  • Management of transport carrier/broker contracts and pricing, as well as the company carriage quotations and expenditure.
  • Carrier tenders and vendor selection.
  • Leads and is involved with projects as required; due to Brexit there are a number of ongoing and new projects that will be launched. The individual will come up with solutions and drive through to completion.
  • Responsible for customer complaint resolution and associated carrier claims and CAPA’s.
  • Responsible for all company export requirements, regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for the company dangerous goods regulatory compliance and safe transport of dangerous goods by road, sea and air.
  • Responsible for the company ‘Known Consignor Security Certificate’. They will be the primary KC for the site and are accountable for ensuring compliance to the certified requirements. They are also responsible for organising training and conducing audits with the legal bodies.
  • Generating OTA reports and working with cross functional teams, as well as external providers, to make improvements.
  • Liaising with the purchasing department for stock ordering and deliveries.
  • Driving though overall departmental and individual goals.
  • Collaborates with plant personnel to ensure consistent application of procedures, encourage teamwork and provide effective communication.
  • Assist in identifying training needs and performance gaps for operators and providing training/support as required.
  • Effectively manage, train and develop direct reports
  • Other projects/duties as assigned.

Competencies, Qualification & Experience Required

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

· NVQ / A Level Equivalent

· Experience within a batch manufacturing industry with a proven track record in the logistics function

· Project management and effective change management skills

· Previous experience of managing and leading people

· Experience of Logistics Pricing, contract management and negotiation as well as cost and budget management

· Experience with on time arrival tracking within carrier tracking systems

· Working and up-to-date knowledge of Transportation legislation and areas such as Dangerous Goods: DGSA and IATA, Letters of Credit, Inco-terms

· Knowledge and experience transporting freight Road, Rail, Sea and Air.

· Health and safety procedural experience

· Ability to work well under pressure and prioritise accordingly

· Self-starter with excellent planning and organisational skills

· Ability to analyse data, statistics and produce clear and effective reports

· Experience with continuous improvement and problem solving techniques

· Computer literate with previous experience of working with Microsoft Office package including Outlook, Excel and Word
