Fixed term contract: 12 monthsApplications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Community Paediatrics, working with the Community Child Health Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. This is a maternity cover post. We are looking to attract the right person who has enthusiasm for the role of a paediatrician working with complex children within a wider changing service.The post-holder will be part of the Community Child Health Team taking responsibility for complex children with neurodevelopmental delay within Cornwall. This includes commitment the Safeguarding rota, and offering vulnerable children’s clinics on a rotational basis. Community Paediatrics operates a day time child protection rota. There is no commitment to the acute on-call rota.An enthusiastic commitment to partnership working with Cornwall’s Primary Care Trust and the Local Authority is expected and the ability to respond to the changing demands of Community Child Health services will be expected.The department is actively involved in the delivery of the education programme of the University of Exeter Medical School [UEMS] and we offer six month posts for core paediatric trainees for which our feedback is always extremely encouraging. We are also one of the few departments who have been accepted to support Grid Community Child Health trainees.The Women and Children’s services at the Royal Cornwall Hospital are currently developing clinical pathways that will be delivered in new, modern facilities within the Women and Children’s new build (due for completion in 2028). Therefore, providing a basis for implementing our clinical strategy.This will further integrate the general and community paediatric services to best support the children in Cornwall. There are exciting and unique developments occurring in Cornwall including a developing paediatric eating disorders service and also a working vision developing our transition service up to the age of 25 years, which is a foundation to the development of the New Build.Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is the biggest provider of healthcare services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
