Fife OMFS is a busy, thriving and dynamic unit with its main base in the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. It serves a population of approximately 300000. It provides a comprehensive regional OMFS service, with the exclusion of head and neck oncology to the Fife Area. The Fife team undertake all facial trauma surgery, skin surgery, dentoalveolar surgery as well as offering a modern 3D planned TMJ arthroplasty service and 3D planned orthognathic service.

The successful post-holder will gain experience of acute maxillofacial complaints, managing inpatients, recognising the sick patient, participating in general outpatient clinics as well as specialist arthroplasty and orthognathic clinics assisting in Theatre and develop skills in the management of orofacial sepsis. There will also be hands on experience in dentoalveolar and skin surgery in both local and general anaesthetic settings.

The post is extremely well supported and there are many opportunities to learn and develop your skills. There is also potential scope to sit in on Orthodontic clinics.

Applicants should note that this post gives access to training/educational events, a study budget and the opportunity to complete supervised learning events. However, the postholder will not be subject to the review of competence progression (RCP) process and the post cannot be considered as a formal Dental Core Training post for future career progression.

Geographically, Kirkcaldy is situated in the heart of Fife being 24 miles from St Andrews, 30 miles from Edinburgh and Dundee and 55 miles from Glasgow.
