An opportunity to work with a small team of experts in the animal care industry. We boast a wide variety of animals, offering the chance to learn first hand aspects of commercial farming, equine care, animal handling, conservation of rare breeds and much more. We love spending time interacting with our animals as well! Finding a healthy balance between hard work and bonding with our furry friends. Each season of the year brings new challenges and opportunities to develop and grow.

Due to the nature of the business, regular weekend and bank holiday work is required. This includes flexibility over the Christmas period.
Occasionally situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested by the Trust. In addition, all employees are expected to adhere to the Trust’s commitment to providing a safe and positive working environment for all.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide high quality, comprehensive safe management and care of animals.
  • Large and small animal handling.
  • Administration of medication and treatment.
  • Outdoor working and manual labour.
  • Lead education sessions and interact with customers.
  • Identify new opportunities to drive continuous improvement with the Livestock department.

  • Ability to manage flexible working hours – lambing season, sick cover, Christmas.

  • Passion and motivation to provide the best care and environment for all animals on site.

Desired Qualifications

  • Maths and English grade 4 or C or above or equivalent desired but not essential
  • Applicant must not already hold a level 2 in animal care or above.

Future Progressions

  • No guaranteed position at end of course. Can move onto stable/yard work, farming, education

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship Standard.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship

Things to consider

  • KEITS Training Services Ltd reserves the right to close the vacancy earlier than the listed closing date should the need arise
  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
  • Site not located on public transport lines. Ability to drive or reliable transport essential.
  • Majority of work is outside and continues in all weather.
  • Must be comfortable with some lifting and being on feet for long periods at a time.
  • Due to nature of job role, and visitors/pupils onsite, we ask that anyone applying ideally be 17 or older.

Salary: From £5.28 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 37.5 per week

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
