Opportunities at Female Only IRC

We're looking for people to create a brand new team based at our new Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), as part of our newly acquired contract. Individuals will have experience in relating to people that may be agitated or confused by their circumstances and are able to interact and assist potentially vulnerable individuals whilst in our care. Empathy and resilience are key attributes for this role.

You will be passionate about delivering a great service in a sensitive manner, along with good communication skills and a team player. The ability to remain calm under pressure and experience in problem solving would also be advantageous to developing your career within Care and Custody.

We will consider applications from candidates that require part time employment.

Job Description
  • To maintain high standards of security and safety whilst ensuring the welfare and decency of residents
  • To manage the operation of the library and connected resources for the benefit of residents
  • To assist in the delivery of providing meaningful regimes activities for residents where required
  • Manage the daily operation of the library, ensuring contractual requirements are met, and a safe and secure environment is maintained
  • Promote the library resources to residents, supporting on any communications
  • Ensure library resources are maintained in good condition and in an organised fashion, and are appropriate for the resident population
  • Support and participate in the delivery of activities within regimes, including educational and media based activities and workshops, encouraging resident participation, so that a full and professional service is delivered at all times.
  • Use, handle, transport and store equipment and materials securely and correctly at all times to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Support the production of the monthly in house magazine so that it is interesting, inclusive and informative.
  • Engage with and manage residents in activities promoting and protecting their rights in compliance with legislation and company policies and procedures ensuring they are held securely in a safe and decent environment.
  • Maintain high standards of security and safety at all times, promoting an environment of positive behaviour that supports the welfare of residents and staff.
  • Deal with inappropriate behaviour to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Participate in the control of incidents and emergencies to ensure their swift resolution.
  • Complete all documentation and administration in line with company policies so that accurate contractually compliant data is maintained.
  • Communicate information to and about residents, engendering positive, professional relationships with all residents whilst maintaining the security and safety of the Centre.
Qualifications

Essential
  • Understanding, empathy and desire to motivate, groups of individuals sensitively who may be agitated, confused or angry
  • Previous experience of working in a library
  • A wide-ranging interest in literature by authors from around the world
  • A willingness to undertake all mandatory training is vital
Desirable
  • Qualifications or accreditation to Level 2 or above: CSE - grade 1, GCSE - grades 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 or grades A*, A, B, C, intermediate apprenticeship, level 2 NVQ, Award, Certificate or Diploma
