Are you a qualified Librarian, or do you have extensive experience working in libraries, and ready to take your career to the next level?

The Librarian team provides the expertise and focus on stock and advocacy in Gloucestershire Libraries in order to organise and deliver library services. Librarians are a key team and provide the energy and skill to lead the Libraries Connected Universal Offers for the county.

We are recruiting for 2 creative and self-motivated Librarians to join our vibrant team. If you are passionate about the difference public libraries can make in communities this is the role for you.

Our ideal candidates will be familiar with stock management and stock selection and have a passion for books, reading, digital access and working with people. You will have experience of delivering a customer focused service and projects and have a range of management experience. You will have the ability to work with communities, stakeholders and volunteers and an entrepreneurial approach to service delivery.

Our specific need is for two roles:

1) we are looking for a candidate with an interest in information and digital resources to support the selection and development of eStock and virtual reference services as well as embedding digital skills development and STEAM into our service offer, and connecting into wider Council digital access strategy. To work 18.5 hours per week.

2) we are looking for a candidate with the experience and interest in leading our service development and stock selection for children and young people to include the Universal Offer and key promotions such as Summer Reading Challenge, and projects linked to wider the County Council commitment to improve the outcomes for young people in Gloucestershire. To work 37 hours per week.

In both roles you will be responsible for:

  • Selecting, managing and presenting stock, both physical and digital

  • Provision of training and development for staff

  • You will have experience of delivering a customer focused service and projects

You should have:

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • An ability to communicate concepts, ideas and instruction to a wide range of audiences

  • Confidence selecting and managing stock

  • Confidence connecting with a wide range of partners to further the work of Gloucestershire Libraries

  • A flexible and creative approach to projects and solving problems

  • A proactive and enthusiastic attitude, and be ready to hit the ground running.
