We currently have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Legal Counsel to join our growing Legal team and continue to support our commercial teams and the wider Chapman Freeborn Group through a stimulating period of growth.

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience as an in-house legal counsel (or similar position) post qualification and will be looking for a fast-paced and global role to further professional development with a niche industry leader.

The successful candidate will be advising on commercial and air charter contracts and will be working closely with our charter brokers and managers across the Chapman Freeborn Group with the aim of mitigating legal risk and ensuring compliance across all product areas. A candidate with previous experience within the aviation industry or similar would be highly desirable. All candidates must be UK qualified.

The desire to contribute ideas in order to support implementation and improvement of internal processes within the current team would be a highly regarded quality in the ideal candidate. The job role holder will also be responsible for supporting the creation and execution of a corporate legal strategy.

Purpose of the role

  • To minimise the group’s legal risk by means of giving legal advice to brokers to ensure that all contracts signed are legally compliant.
  • Respond diligently and efficiently to brokers, clients and management within the group to any queries relating to contracts.
  • To oversee the day-to-day compliance of legal procedures for the group.
  • To propose and implement improvements to current legal processes.

Key job responsibilities

  • Supporting operational teams with legal advice on commercial contracts, including drafting, reviewing, updating and advising on service agreements (both inward and outward), framework agreements, tender and related agreements having a particular focus on air transportation (both cargo and passenger).
  • Administration of supplier due diligence activities and review of associated documentation (both regulatory and insurance in nature) in line with internal processes and requirements.
  • Provision of legal support in a range of legal matters including company secretarial, intellectual property, dispute resolution and IT.
  • Participating in corporate project work and providing ad-hoc company/commercial legal advice.
  • Identifying, monitoring and managing legal risks affecting the group’s businesses and advising commercial colleagues on the impact of those risks and measures to mitigate them.
  • Supporting the management of legal priorities and objectives within the business.
  • Building relationships with commercial colleagues and embedding awareness of legal risk management and corporate policy issues.
  • Provision of internal training to operational colleagues.
  • Developing legal precedents in line with legal, regulatory and corporate environment.
  • Resolve disputes with suppliers and clients where necessary.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and clients.
  • Promote a professional and efficient service to the group.
