Job Description
As part of the Legal Team, you will be providing proactive legal advice and support to Esken and its various business divisions. The Legal Counsel will review legal arrangements and documentation, particularly commercial contracts and property documents. You will be expected to deliver pragmatic and commercially focused solutions and advise on a variety of contractual matters, while ensuring that the company always operates within the law and limits risk exposure.
With upwards of five years’ PQE and previous in-house experience, you will be well versed in non-contentious commercial work and feel confident in handling a variety of business-critical matters across the Group.
You will have strong experience of both independently advising and drafting a broad range of commercial agreements and any experience of energy or aviation sector would be advantageous but not essential. Likewise, experience in advising on real estate, HR and data privacy matters would be advantageous but not essential.
Your practical and quick minded approach will allow you to deliver pragmatic and commercially focused solutions from day one, and your ability to advise on a variety of contractual matters will make you invaluable to our business.
This is a full-time role, with flexible/remote working available. Proximity to our Widnes office would be beneficial (as there will be an expectation of some attendance in the office), although proximity to our London office may also be considered as a possibility for the right candidate.


Key Responsibilities

  • Providing clear and concise legal advice and support across the business, covering a range of areas including commercial contracts, real estate, corporate, employment and disputes.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documentation to support business objectives and assisting with the resolution of disputes concerning commercial contracts.
  • Delivering practical, creative and commercial solutions and value within budgets and time constraints, whilst ensuring risks are understood and mitigated.
  • Providing support to the Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel & Company Secretary
  • Keeping up to date with all relevant legal, legislative, regulatory and industry developments, and informing and updating the team.

Qualifications Knowledge and Expertise

  • Ability to research and analyse complex data information
  • Pragmatic and commercially astute as well being good communicators to provide effective support to senior management and the wider business.

  • Ability to multi-task and efficiently organise priorities.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and the capability to influence senior management.
Core Experience/Qualifications
  • Qualified Solicitor with at least 5 years’ post qualification experience.
  • Previous experience of working in an in-house legal environment for at least two years.
  • Experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts.
  • Wide range of appropriate IT skills, experience of using Microsoft Office suite.
Desirable Experience/Qualifications
  • Previous experience in relation to real estate, HR and data privacy.
  • Experience of advising in the aviation and/or energy sector.
