About UsThe Legal Team provides day-to-day legal support for the various shared services within IHS Markit as well as commercial legal support for the Financial Services and Industries business divisions. We are a highly trusted and dynamic team that works in close partnership with the business to help drive maximum results.Your RoleYou will be a key member of the IHS Markit Legal team. Reporting into Counsel Director, you will be providing support for a wide variety of functions and/or divisions within the IHS Markit Global Legal Team with a special focus on Financial Services. The role involves dealing with a host of commercial transactions, ad hoc business projects and advising the business on various commercial legal matters.Key Responsibilities Include
  • Reviewing, negotiating and drafting a wide variety of agreements including data, software licenses, services, maintenance, web-based services, consulting agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other commercial contracts from different regions, at global level.
  • Support sales and other business teams including shared services groups based in different regions, globally and provide them with innovative business solutions.
  • Developing knowledge of multiple areas of the law, including intellectual property, and privacy, to counsel internal clients on business and legal risks arising at all stages of the customer relationship.
  • Analyzing, evaluating, and providing input to product and client initiatives with a view to identifying and highlighting possible business and legal risks to management.
  • Interact and work closely with IHS Markit Global Legal Team and provide strategic and legal inputs on matters across different business areas.
  • Drafting and maintaining template agreements.
  • Encouraging compliance by IHS Markit Colleagues with applicable policies and procedures (e.g. Sales RAD, insider trading, and compliance).

  • Law degree/law conversion
  • 3-4 years’ experience as a practicing lawyer / legal counsel with commercial, contracts, contractual and general legal experience from a law firm or in an in-house legal environment
  • Must have an excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken)
  • Excellent drafting and negotiating skills.
  • Legal experience in negotiating and drafting commercial and other business to business technology and information related contracts – nice to have
  • Experienced in compliance, intellectual property and data privacy matters – nice to have
  • Knowledge of data and software licensing, intellectual property, and commercial contract law required - preferred
  • Knowledge of English law, and knowledge of the laws of the State of NY is also great.
  • Experience with engineering, technology, or financial companies is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage a variety of commercial transactions and special projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to anticipate and respond to problems.
  • Investigative, analytical, problem-solving, and strategic skills.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, self-motivated team player. Strong organizational skills.
