Our award-winning School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI)hosts a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and plays an active part in the creative industries across Scotland.

We are widely recognised for our expertise and excellence in creative practice, enhanced by extensive international collaboration, providing both staff and students with the opportunity to work and study worldwide.

Our base in Edinburgh is the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature and the home of Scottish publishing. Each year, the capital is host to a number of internationally celebrated literary and publishing events, including the Publishing Scotland and Booksellers Association Scottish Book Trade Conference, Scotland’s National Book Awards, Comic Con Scotland, and the world-renowned Edinburgh International Book Festival.

As such, we are currently looking for an inspirational Lecturer in Publishing who has extensive professional expertise in the publishing industry, to help deliver the vision for our MSc Publishing programme and push the boundaries of excellence in teaching, research and practice.

The Role:

This post will provide you with the rare opportunity to join a dynamic and dedicated team who are widely recognised for their expertise and excellence in publishing research and practice.

You will be in an excellent position to use your professional experience in a commercial publishing environment to demonstrate significant practical expertise to your students across a range of areas including (but not limited to) book, magazine and digital publishing.

Your considerable expertise (including application of Adobe Creative Suite & InDesign) and innovative/collaborative approach to teaching and research will allow you to impart practical publishing skills and theory via the delivery of exceptional teaching and support to students on our MSc Publishing programme.

This will see you taking responsibility for teaching, supporting and assessing postgraduate Publishing students, supervising Publishing projects and dissertations, providing pastoral as well as academic support to students, contributing to curriculum planning and development, and engaging in innovative research and scholarly activity.

In doing so, you will become a valued member of a team whose work is enhanced by industry collaboration, with an ethos embracing a strong social and ethical focus, while instilling a strong sense of global citizenship and social responsibility in our graduates.

What we will need from you:

  • Qualification in relevant discipline and/or equivalent Professional qualifications relevant to discipline
  • Professional experience and expertise developed during a career in the publishing industry
  • Expert technical proficiency using industry standard software (in particular, Adobe Creative Suite and InDesign to create print books, ebooks and audiobooks)
  • Expert knowledge sufficient to deliver advanced level teaching in one or more of the following fields: design and production; digital and audio publishing; sustainable production and enterprise.
  • Strong network of industry contacts.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team working, IT, administration, and oral and written communication skills.

Hours: Full time - 35 per week
