Job description

The School of Arts & Creative Industries is a forward looking, dynamic school preparing its students for employability and responsible citizenship fit for the demands of the 21st Century.

Situated in the heart of Scotland’s festival city, Edinburgh, SACI is made up of three subject areas – Media and Humanities; Screen & Performing Arts; and Art, Design and Photography. The School is home to just over 1800 students and about 96 permanent staff plus a range of industry experts and specialist staff employed on a more casual basis.

At SACI, we are committed to delivering a personalised learning experience for students, set against an agenda of inclusivity, employability, and sustainability. We achieved 89% in the last NSS, and we are number one in the UK for Journalism, and in the top ten for Film and Photography, Media & Film Studies, English, Design and Music (Sunday Times and Guardian League Tables). We entered four units of assessment to the REF and have recently launched two new research centres to strengthen or research culture.

We are proud of our ethos, combining a sharp focus on critical thinking and applying theory to practice relevant to industry. Our staff maintain strong links to industry with many continuing to be active practitioners. Our school encourages an atmosphere of creative practice as research alongside more traditional research.

You will have extensive professional design experience and be able to demonstrate expertise across a range of areas of graphic design activity including (but not limited to) typography, art direction, editorial, data visualisation, production and print craft.

You will have your finger on the pulse of contemporary theoretical and academic discourses within design practice and pedagogy, informing a cutting-edge future-oriented vision for where graphic design is going as it constantly transforms and evolves. You will have the opportunity to develop your research interests and deliver student centred learning across all levels of our design programmes, working across disciplines through the delivery of design theory.
