Teaching Assistant for an Alternative Provision in Hamilton Square (Birkenhead, CH41)

The school is made up of children aged 11-18 who have left mainstream education either through expulsion, lack of attendance or lack of engagement and need alternative support. A lot of the students are from vulnerable backgrounds, have a history of SEMH and also have other learning difficulties that has made being in mainstream education too much to handle.

Teaching Assistants are expected to be able to build fantastic relationships with the students they work with as well as the rest of the staffing team. You will also need to be resilient in the face of different behaviours and aware of different SEMH needs and will need thick skin and a good sense of humour.

The school is a fun place to work and has facilities in place to engage students and provide an environment through which the children can thrive.

The role temporary-to-permanent initially working through TeacherActive as a trial period before the school will offer the right learning mentor the chance to transition to a permanent member of staff (temp-to-perm). Throughout the whole process, you will be supported by me (Dan) to answer any questions and provide any support you may require.

  • Experience with SEMH (preferred but not essential)
  • Experience with Behaviours that Challenge.
  • Great communication skills.
  • The initiative, ability and desire to creatively support students in lessons.
  • The ability to build great relationships with the staff and pupils.
  • A great work ethic.
In Return The Successful Teaching Assistant Will Receive
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference.
  • A great rate of pay.
  • Fantastic prospects of further long-term work for the right staff member.
  • A high level of support provided by your dedicated consultant.
