Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will however need your base ’home’ location to be one of our SSE offices or depots across Scotland.

Salary: £54,600 - £81,800 depending on skills and experience + cash allowance + annual bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?

SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Lead Project Manager to join us to successfully deliver large High Voltage transmission projects as part of our RIIOT2 business plan.

As a result of future growth, we have an increasing number of complex and challenging projects to develop and deliver.

The Key Duties & Responsibilities Will Be
  • Reporting to the Project Director you will oversee a portfolio of Transmission projects, managing teams of internal staff, external delivery contractors and consultants. These Projects could cumulatively be valued at several hundred thousand pounds at any one time.
  • Leadership in the delivery of assigned packages of work and be responsible for the management of a team of Project Managers, Construction Managers and other team members across multiple locations as the various projects assigned to you move through our internal governance process towards construction and commissioning.
  • You will work closely with the Transmission Management Team to ensure projects are refined, constructed and commissioned in line with the Transmission Business Plan and required regulatory outputs.
  • As a strong communicator, you will build and maintain productive and enduring relationships with Contractors, Stakeholders, Communities and the public to support the sustainable delivery of the projects that you are responsible for.
  • You will be expected to identify business improvements and where required support colleagues and the business to develop, test, implement and verify business improvements. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and internal regulations, processes and governance.
What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we look for you to have:
  • Vast experience in managing technically complex large capital projects and large multi-functional teams, ideally with specific knowledge of electricity networks.
  • A strong understanding of reporting and management of others, with the ability to lead a multi-discipline team to success.
  • A wide range of engineering and construction knowledge and an understanding of the tendering process for engagement of material and contractor support. Direct experience in delivering Transmission sub-station, overhead line and/or cabling projects would be advantageous.
  • You will preferably hold a professional registration or qualification, such as Chartered Engineer, APM, or are working toward the same or similar.
  • Due to the need to travel between our offices and sites throughout Central and Northern Scotland, there is a requirement for you to have a full, current Driving Licence.
