Contract TypePermanentWork patternFull timePosition LocationHinckley, United KingdomJob DescriptionOur Energy Unit are looking for a Lead Project Commercial Manager to join their team in Hinckley, Leicestershire. This role is to supplement our projects with traditional oil and gas clients focusing on the energy transition to cleaner fuels including opportunities with Gas to Power LNG, Carbon Capture and Hydrogen.About The RoleProvide leadership to manage commercial risk in part of our Energy business and to create opportunity through strong commercial bids and management of projects, including compliance with Group directives and policies, focus on customer priorities and developing skills and awareness. Responsible for oversight of the commercial aspects of bids and for on going project controls. Reports to the Account Leader regarding specific bids and projects. Bringing commercial focus to a variety of projects along with implementing strong project controls and project management support.WIN- Undertake the role of or support selection of project principals (PPs) and bid principals (BPs)
- Ensure we are delivering commercially robust proposals through application of STEP, a customer focused approach and appropriate innovation in delivery
- Support project teams in understanding key issues and securing sound and equitable commercial outcomes in contract negotiations
- Ensure appropriate agreements with third parties are in place, including sub-consultant organisations, strategic and JV partners.
- Develop post project review schedule, and disseminate findings
- Undertake role of PP or support PPs to manage budgets in order to deliver the ROCE and project profit approved in the CAAP; or subsequently approved by the GM
- Identify projects where performance improvements are required, and ensure a clear action plan for recovery
- Provide guidance, and where necessary leadership, on how claims/variations should be prepared, presented and negotiated with the customer
- Review working capital, contribute to credit management meetings and provide leadership in the recovery of bad debts
- Promote all aspects of STEP related to commercial success
- Support a team of Project Managers and develop their capability to undertake the Project Principal and Project Manager roles on bids and projects to manage risk, deliver profit, develop capability and create customer relationships
- Develop continuous improvement in proposal approval, CAAP’s, MPCMs and project/ post-project reviews
- Develop commercial thought leadership, add to the commercial practice site
- Put in place appropriate guidance, training and knowledge sharing to manage budgets to deliver ROCE, to manage working capital, to spread knowledge of the Group directives and policies, to develop commercial awareness and risk management.
- Interface with and support other commercial managers
- Interface with the legal department to improve guidance
- Foster key relationships, internally and externally
- Commercial and contract management skills and experience of delivering ideally within a cost consultancy
- Member of Professional Body / relevant qualification
- Previous experience of contract administration, preferably using NEC contracts and experience in fixed price, cost reimbursable and target cost payment mechanisms
- Relevant experience working on Oil and Gas / Utilities projects is preferred
- Ideally degree qualified
- Ability to operate both autonomously and as a part of a larger team
- Excellent IT Skills – Word/Excel/PowerPoint
- Previous experience working with cost management tools
- Strong communication skills including writing reports and presenting
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and the supply chain
- Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work
