Lead / Principal Product Design Engineer

Northampton

Salary: £40,000 - £60,000

Benefits: a 5% pension contribution, 4 x salary ‘Death in Service’ & 25 days holiday plus bank holidays = 33 annually.

Working from home policy nominally 3 days in the office 2 at home

All candidates must be enthusiastic to work within a small multi-disciplined, rural location SME in the defence industry (50 employees).

The Role:

This vacancy has arisen due to a phased retirement and offers the candidate the opportunity to take over an established and stable position whilst becoming a key member of the Engineering team.

This is a lead role within the team to take a lead role in product development. This role is predominantly a design-based role.

The following key responsibilities and skills will be required.

  • British Citizen due to required security clearance.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an equivalent role.
  • 3D Modelling (Solid Edge).
  • Mechanical Design.
  • Conceptual design of products.
  • Production of design documentation and review of design documentation produced by other.
  • Line Manager for lower grades assigned to your design function.
  • Monitor and evaluate novel materials and the latest technologies

Experience and skills in some of the following areas is also desirable.

  • Working in the Electrical and Electronic, Defence, Aerospace, Broadcast or Telecommunications sectors.
  • Knowledge of wiring, cable harnesses and wiring diagrams.
  • Stress Analysis.
  • Thermal awareness and analysis (modelling desirable)
  • Ergonomics/Human Factors
  • Full product lifecycle knowledge and experience.
  • EMC
  • Design for Environmental Conditions (DO160 and MIL-STD-810)
