What You’ll Do
- Work as part of a self-organised Infrastructure / platform engineering team to design, build and upgrade existing and new Infrastructure.
- Work to achieve the goals and vision articulated by the Infrastructure Engineering Manager (IEM) and tribe leadership
- Your main focus is on building new on-prem infrastructure and migrating existing applications onto it. This will involve upgrading those systems and tuning / configuring them to work on the latest operating systems.
- Innovate within your team, initiative area and contribute within your technical domain.
- Leading, planning and delivering key pieces of Intent from inception through to design and hands-on delivery, in collaboration with the IEM and Senior Infrastructure Engineer.
- Be an active, vocal member of the team, fully participate in all key ceremonies and be able to voice differing opinions to higher levels
- 4-6 years’ professional experience with Linux engineering, administration, or support (preferably RedHat Enterprise Linux 6 of higher)
- Proven ability to deliver high quality infrastructure on both virtual and physical hardware in development and production environments at scale.
- A proven record of migrating applications onto newer infrastructure and partnering with other teams to configure those applications.
- A depth of knowledge to successfully troubleshoot and pre-empt performance issues, for example through kernel parameter tuning.
- Ability to effectively communicate and partner across engineering teams to maximise inner-sourcing opportunities and reduce waste.
- Exceptional communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal.
- Extensive experience of shell scripting.
- Extensive experience of building both physical and virtual Linux servers.
- Experience working with Chef and creating / maintaining chef recipes.
- Solving real world problems and being comfortable working in a complex regulated environment
- Good experience of working with VMware tools.
- Working with the cloud/AWS and the opportunities that it brings
- Experience of Redhat package management system.
