Our client is a leading global resources company with a portfolio of world-class competitive mining operations and undeveloped resources provides the metals and minerals that enable a cleaner, greener, more sustainable world meeting the fast-growing consumer-driven demands of the world’s developed and growing economies.

Their Crop Nutrients business is creating a unique fertilizer project that will help the world grow more food in a better way. Their flagship multinutrient fertilizer product contains four of the six macro-nutrients and many micronutrients that are essential to plant growth. It allows farmers to maximise their crop yield, increase quality and improve soil structure with one simple product.

Their global agronomy programme provides technical, agronomic and commercial validation for the product’s use as an effective multi-nutrient fertilizer suitable for widespread use in commercial farming. They also have a number of value-added product streams in a range of development stages.

Join us as a Lead Environmental Scientist where you will deliver environmental science knowledge to regional and local agronomy teams. You will provide a technical resource support to commercial, marketing, sustainability, environmental and compliance needs and deliver appropriate product knowledge to be able to effectively direct the use, labelling and risk assessments of our fertilisers.

Key accountabilities

  • Scope, agree, deliver and monitor technical environmental science programmes.
  • Work to include eutrophication, wildlife and ecosystem impacts specifically eutrophication.
  • Human impacts including human food chain health benefits.
  • Human exposure assessments encompassing consideration of social impact of polyhalite fertilisers.
  • Assess impacts of climate change on product use and derived values.
  • Coordinate project results and escort knowledge transfer to all internal and external stakeholders. Translate knowledge into USPs for fertiliser products in conjunction with other team members.
  • Provide a resource for environmental impact knowledge.
  • Support activities during marketing and lobbying events and conferences.
  • Support product soil environment impact assessments for registration activities.
  • Liaise with central office functions in respect of data requirements, regulatory development, political and economic landscape developments of relevance.
  • Visit and audit potential new facilities and staff.
  • Support local H&S procedures.
  • Contributes to monthly upstream reports.
  • Contributes to accounting for budget expenditure and activity status.

Qualifications

  • BSc Degree or equivalent in Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences or related discipline with minimum of 3 years of field work preferably gained in the agri-environment arena
  • A good understanding of current crop production and agronomy practises for broad acre crops and high value crops of local importance.
  • An ability to organize and execute high quality trial programs, and able to use the result to impact business success
  • An ability to make convincing presentations to all levels from in-house to farm customers and legislative bodies
  • Good computer and data management skills
  • Excellent organization and time management coupled with good inter-personal and team skills. Data management, quality review and timely submission of trial results, to ensure good agricultural and experimental practice
